Business as an undergrad...

I've heard from people that undergrads shouldn't take business as a major, because it will be a waste or whatever because they'll have to get an MBA anyways...

What exactly are the advantages/disadvantages of majoring in business as an undergrad?

one big advantage is that you'll find it easier to land a job right out of college

it depends. most top schools do not have business undergrads (only cornell and penn in the top 15 i believe), so if you want to go to a top school, you don't have a choice.

i think the benefit of majoring in business vs. liberal arts is, like dahe said, an easier time finding a job upon graduation.

the difference, however, between an economics degree and a business degree coming from a school that offers both is somewhat unkown to me, however i can tell you that an economics degree from a top school is generally more sought after than a business degree from a school outside the top 15 (except for very top programs like Ross at Michigan, etc. which are generally valued equally)

Personally, i find economics more interesting and fulfilling; doing business for undergrad is essentially like going to a trade school

It's more interesting to do liberal arts and just pick and choose your wharton classes depending on what seems interesting

i.e. negotiations? yes.... accounting? not so much..
