I have been offered a direct admission into the Kelley School of Business and I also have been accepted at University of Wisconsin, Madison where I intend to take up Business Management.
My specific doubts are :
On a general note, which business program is better between the two ?
I already have a direct admission into the Kelley School of Business but in Wisconsin, the college might give it to me depending on my performance in college. What are the chances of not getting Business Management Major in Wisconsin after admission ? Is it safer then to accept Kelly as a bird in hand is worth two in the bush ?
I wish to take Computer science as a Minor. Would that influence the choice of college ?
Am very confused regarding the above. Please help !!!
Thanks a ton for your reply. Even though Kelley is good for Business, Wisconsin as a University seems to beat Indiana in all aspects. The overall reputation and ranking of IU is quite poor compared to UW. Any comments on this ?
Either choice is great; I wouldn’t have any concern that I were cheating myself by choosing a school with less of a reputation. Yes, UW overall is slightly more highly ranked. Kelley, though, is a top business school and you are a direct admit. This is a choice where I would just advise going where you feel most comfortable. That will be more important to your future success than any very marginal differences in reputation between these two very fine schools. Good luck, have fun, work hard, treat everyone with dignity and respect . . . you’ll do well.
I would love to know if you had any further information presented to you or have made your decision! I am between the same two and am having the hardest time choosing.
If you’re for sure majoring in business, pick the better business school (IU Kelley). Don’t make your college decision based on your minor. Kelley has an unparalleled reputation for a public school, and IU overall is very underrated in the rankings (in my opinion).
@gr8sahil you raised the most important factor and that is whether you will eventually be admitted to the business school at Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s school of business has now moved to a system where it now admits most of its students as freshmen, making it increasingly difficult to be admitted as sophomores or juniors.
What I don’t understand here is that you are a direct admit to Kelley, which means you probably have 1400+ on your SAT and over a 4.0 weighted GPA. That should have been enough to get you into UW-M School of Business.
If you are locked in to business, Kelley would be a great choice. However, Wisconsin is recognized as a better overall university. Considering that you were not a direct admit to the Wisconsin’s business school, Kelley now seems like the obvious choice unless you just see a better overall fit at Wisconsin.
