I'm going to be a senior in high school next year and im a little confused about the Haas school of business. i wanna major in sports business management so i'm looking around and i know that berkeley has a really good business school. so my question is how do you get into Haas? do u say ur major is business when u apply as a freshman and get accepted into Haas or do you get into berkeley first then u apply for Haas? and if u don't get into Haas does that mean u cant major in business. so yea any help would be appreciated.

i've had time to research about Haas a tad bit... and I might be wrong...but i dont think so ....so here it goes... if you want to go to HAAS then you apply to the College of Letter and Sciences as Undecided....i applied to CLS as a chemistry field...but i found out that everyone is pretty much undecided .....so yea....and then you study your ass off in berkeley....and then you apply your sophomore year in berkeley...and then if you get accepted...you go to haas...in the undergraduate program during your junior year....but if you dont get in...then that's where im kinda lost as well...cuz im gonna try to get into HAAS as well.. but if you dont get in...then you cant major in business. more information at haas.berkeley.edu ....it even has admission stats there as well

There are courses you have to take in order to get into Haas, and it seems like it would be easiest to take those if you applied to L&S.

If you dont get into Haas, you cant major in business and you have to do something else offered by your college within Berkeley. ie English, History, Legal Studies, Psychology if youre in L&S. You've just got to settle.

You don't have to go to L&S. Theroetically, you can get into Haas from any of the other Berkeley colleges. I know some people who have managed to get in coming from the College of Engineering (for example, to get a double-degree in EECS and busad). I'm fairly certain other people have transferred in from the College of Natural Resources, the College of Chemistry, and the other colleges.

Basically, if you want to get into Haas, you take the Haas prereqs in your first 2 years at Berkeley and try to do extremely well in them. You should note that in those prereqs (most notably Busad 10), everybody is trying to get into Haas, so the competition for the top grades is fierce. You also need to build your extracurricular activities, because you have to submit a resume to Haas, and that is taken into consideration for admissions. Then at the end of your sophomore year, you apply to Haas. About 50% will get in.

Note, that that's 50% of those who apply will get in. Plenty of people who want to get in won't even bother to apply, because they know they won't get admitted. For example, if you get mediocre grades in your Haas prereqs, you probably shouldn't waste time in applying, because you know you're not going to get in. The median GPA for admitted students is about a 3.6. Note, that's a 3.6 of your Berkeley grades, not your high school grades. Haas doesn't care about your high school grades. Only your Berkeley grades will count.

And has been said above, if you don't get into Haas, then you gotta find something else to major in.

The takehome point is that you're taking a substantial chance in going to Berkeley hoping to major in busad. There is a strong chance that you'll go to Berkeley, do all the Haas prereqs, and then find yourself rejected from Haas. It's not like going to PennWharton, where once you've been admitted, then all you have to do is pass your classes to get the busad degree. It's not like MITSloan, where anybody can choose to get a Sloan degree without having to undergo an admissions process. To get into Haas, you have to compete for limited admissions seats, and many people who want one don't get one.
