I am starting to look into classes that I want to sign up for when I attend transfer orientation in a month. I think I am going to try to get into McCombs for my junior year, but I was wondering if it was possible to take any business classes without actually being in McCombs? I am somewhat interested in taking Accounting 311 & 312 this coming year. But, I get the feeling I won't be able too unless I am admitted into McCombs. Does anybody have a definitive answer?

All business classes through McCombs, including Accounting 311 and 312, are restricted to McCombs students only.
[Accounting - Majors - Academics - Texas BBA - Undergraduate Program - The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin](http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/bba/academics/majors/accounting/)

You could look through the sample four year sequences of the possible major(s) you are interested in and take some of the introductory classes, e.g. Communications 306M, and UGS. Below is a link to Accounting’s Four Year Sequence for course ideas:

Thanks for the info.

LonghornDan, have you completed your indicator courses? You may already know this, but these need to be completed before you can apply to McCombs for Fall 2011.

I have done Cal 1 and Micro. I plan on doing Cal 2 and Micro this fall. I guess I need to do UGS 302 or 303 too?

You mean Macro. ;)

UGS are the signature first year courses that you have to take at UT.

Haha yeah, I mean Macro. lol My brain is fried from my maymester class:(

Accounting 311 and 312 are just principles of accounting 1 and 2. You can take these at a community college and they would transfer.

That is an option, but I don’t plan on taking summer classes next year. And if I were to take them concurrently during the year, I either would have a pretty high workload, hurting my chances of getting a high GPA and getting into McCombs. Or, if I adjusted my course load at UT, I wouldn’t have the 24 hours in residence that is required to internally transfer. I may just have to suck it up and take it next summer though.

Don’t skip summer school. Other than math classes, summer school is a good way to learn a lot about a certain subject in a matter of weeks. Its easier too, imo, because you can focus on 1 class unlike the regular semester.

Econ majors can take acc 311 & 312. Look on UT’s website for the Business Econ Option.

I just got back from orientation and a meeting for students who are interested in transferring to McCombs. The guy said that is is possible to petition the business school to take a business class if you are in another college. If the petition is accepted and there is an open seat after the first day of the class (only certain classes are offered on the list each semester) you can get into the class on a first-come first-served basis. You can get the form from GSB 2.400 and it is due back by the 20th of August. I just figured I would post this in case anyone else was interested.

unfortunately you cant do that, Econ is your ticket into Mccombs…(mpa anyway)

Who can’t do that? Or I guess, why can’t I do it?

Hey thanks for the tip! I’m looking to transfer into McCombs too and it would be great to start taking business classes so I wont be too far behind.
