I am a sophomore transfer student denied from McCombs, admitted to UGS. Working on class registration with hopes of being admitted to McCombs at the end of my sophomore year. I took Calc I/II and Micro/Macro at UTSA. I understand I need to have a minimum of 3.5 to apply for internal transfer, however, are there any other recommended classes/electives to take that would improve my chances i.e. are any classes weighted more than others? I was told by an admissions counselor that they would more closely look at grades in business indicator classes, except you can't take any business core classes outright without being in McCombs?

Business indicator classes refer to Calc I/II and Micro/Macro Economics. You have fulfilled those requirements to seek an internal transfer. There are no “waited” classes for admission into McCombs. As far as what classes to take, McCombs has required core classes, such as a UGS course, English, History, etc., just like every other UT college. If you need some of those, then I would take them. However, since GPA is important, I would also fill in with easier courses that can serve as electives such as Theater and Dance, Anthropology etc., depending on your interests. What classes you take is not nearly as important to McCombs as the GPA.

At orientation they have a seminar you should check out about how to internally transfer to the business school.

Make as high of a GPA as possible, somthing n the 3.7-3.8 range

What BHPlonghorn said. I made a ~3.8 and got in :)

I got in with a 3.66. Got a friend who has a 3.51 and she got in as well.

You can take/register for business classes at UT in the summer without restriction.
