I've been looking to start a club in order to get a leadership position in the hopes that my chances of being accepted to a good college increase. I'm hoping to go to a business school and was wondering if there were any business-related clubs I could start. If any are suggested, can you please describe them? (I've seen threads where people just mention names of clubs and there is confusion as to what a club actually does.) I am already the vice-president of my high school FBLA club, so it is useless for that club to be suggested.

Also if answerable: What is DECA? Is is just like FBLA? How would a DECA chapter be started and does it cost money to start a DECA chapter?

As a State Officer of Colorado DECA, I can tell you that it will change your high school experience and the experience of those in your school if you chose to create a DECA chapter.

I am in both DECA and FBLA at my school (DECA President) and DECA adds an entire new dimension to the Business club experience.
My schools DECA chapter is larger (200 members) compared to our FBLA club (120 members).
Differences: DECA is bigger nationally, and has a focus on Marketing, Management, Hospitality, Merchandising, and Tourism.
Being a national competitor in both, DECA has been a much funner and more rewarding experience.
So yes, you should really start a DECA chapter!! Get a business teacher involved to be your advisor!

Visit deca.org for all information regarding starting your own club. I believe the only fees are the dues paid by your members similar to FBLA

What does DECA do, and how do you pick the category you want to be in?
