I'm currently incoming freshman and proposed as Political Science major, but I'm interested in Business Economics now(more pay and love both polisci/economics). My mathematics skills aren't so good, so I was wondering which math to take: Math3a-b or Math 34a-b. I heard Math34 is more of a water-downed and easier than Math3, but I feel that the Math3 series would get me further. Help from current/graduates please!

the 34series are only for the social sciences branches of study. most hard sciences require the 3series. so if you choose to take the 34series, if you choose to switch majors later on, you might have to take the 3series. so i guess, if you want to cover your bases, take the 3series

Thanks tr1p7s. I don’t plan on going into science, though I love Physics but hate Chemistry. It’ll be either Political Science or Business Econ. I need a high GPA so I’m still undecided between Math3 or Math34 and I get the feeling I’ll get higher grades in Math34. =/

i got a question like this too so ill post it here.

im majoring in pre-busines econimics, and i took ap calc ab in 10th grade and ap calc bc in 11th and regular statistics in 12th (no ap in my school)… which math class should i take?

thickchick,

Did you take the AP Calculus exam in HS? You can easily skip the math requirement for math 3 if you got a good score on your Calc BC exam. Even if you didn’t take the AP test for Calculus, the math 3 series should still be really easy for you based on your high school math background. You will probably have to take the PSTAT 5E class early on though.

i got a 5 in ap calc ab and 3 in ap calc bc
