business major necessary?

If one were to go on to MBA, is the business major REALLY necessary? im NOT talking about going for a job right after UG, in that case...bus major is understandable.

what i dont get is i know so many kids (namely berkeley...im from CA) major in business administration and they want to get into MBA program. Is that a good road to take? I have heard that they teach you everything bottom up in MBA programs already so it's not really worth majoring in business (minoring or taking some basics like finance,marketing,mngment/operations is ok though).

Also, anyone know if job experience is necessary to get into a relatively good MBA program right after UG?

and if anyone knows, im just curious, whats the thing about applying to Haas after 2 yrs of UG at cal..does that mean the busadm major student can take UD classes at the B-school? ive heard ppl transfering to Haas after 2 yrs at a CC..so what does that mean?

Most people have a few years of experience working before they go onto get their MBA. A lot of MBA programs aren't relevant if you go right after undergrad, you need some experience to make the graduate classes relevant.

You will need at least 3 to 5 years of post graduate work experience to get into a good business school. As for whether an undergrad degree in business is necessary, it definitely isn't. I would major in what interests you (and make sure it is an employable major).

So you're saying that it's wise to get an MBA in your mid to late 20's? I'm going to be majoring in Economics at Dartmouth and definitely want an MBA, but I was under the impression that most apply to business schools right after college.

What kind of business/finance job is reasonable to get with an ivy league Econ degree (one that would pay well, would have growth opportunities and would look impressive to graduate MBA programs?)

Actually, almost no one applies right after college. 5 years is average for top schools. Some make it with 2-3.
