I'm surrounded by future doctors/engineers and they've all got internships after school finding a cure for AIDS or reconstructing DNA... and then there's me. :-) Are there any that you think could be useful? I'm focused on business in college but I do have a strong interest in politics/law. People say doing research in high school is a good thing but is that limited to science-y people?

See if you can help out at a local company. Chances are, they have some sort of volunteer work you can do, providing good business experience (as well as familiarity with the atmosphere, etc.).

So like internships?

(but not research-oriented?)

Yes, internships would look just as good as research (and since you're interested in business, rather than science, internships are more practical anyway).

Would an internship in a lobbying firm support the whole Business theme ?

why not do something with your city government- business is organzation, planning, communication, and those are the skills you want to hone while interning

I had one D who was a youth commissioner, and the other interns at a magazine

So put together a resume and contact lots of people, you would be suprised how many people want some free labor

Do you have a DECA of FBLA chapter at your school? If not research it and start one!

hmm okay. I interned in Congress last summer and will do it again this summer. I'm glad to hear (more like be reaffirmed) that politics and business aren't so far apart in terms of skills required. :-) I will try cold-calling local businesses!
