If I was wanting to get into Ross my 2nd year. What would my first semester look like?

I know we have to take MATH 115 and ECON 101 and SWC.

I was just wanting to know what my schedule would look like becuase I am considering doing the UROP and Marching Band.

Take prerequisites and whatever else you will like AND do well in.

Some good "pre-business" classes:

STATS 350: Will help you a lot for OMS 301. Easy.

EECS 181: Although not offered every term, this class lets you place out of BIT 200. If anything, it will help with business classes because you will learn to use MS Office applications. It's also much easier than BIT 200, so it's good.

STATS 408: Learn about systems and managing systems with quantitative skills and statistical concepts. You read an important business book called The Goal, which can serve as a basic intro to operations management. Also easy.

ACC 271: Will be a challenge, but you might decide to take it winter of your freshman year, when your competition might be significantly reduced. In the Fall, it will be all the business students. In the winter, it's people who just feel like taking it, so the curve shouldn't be as bad.

Other courses: PSYCH 111 is a popular choice that's easy, and so is ANTHRCUL 101. Languages are good to take as well as your pre-business classes. You should take an actual English class like 124/125 (or GTBOOKS/CLCIV if honors), not SWC.

The list above is some courses to think about, but you can pretty much take anything. UROP and the marching band will look good on your resume, but they will take up time.

Redhare, you're usually spot on, so you're probably right but I just gotta ask... How can you take ACC 271 while you're a freshman in LSA? Isn't it only offered at the B-School?

Oh, right. I forgot to mention. As long as you have sophomore standing (27 credits or more), you're allowed to take ACC 271, the financial accounting class. You don't have to be part of the BBA program for that. In fact, so many econ majors take it as well. Once that's done, you can take ACC 272. You will probably need junior standing to take other business classes like finance and marketing if space is available. I'm not too sure about how that works exactly, but I do know that LSA students are allowed to take up to 20 credits outside the LSA.

I definately reccommend stats 350, I took stats 408 too which is easy but didnt really learn much. And i agree, it is a good idea to take acc 271 in the winter semester b/c it wont be as competitive since most bschool students take it in the fall. You should also try to get your foreign language out of the way

Thanks guys. I also had another question. What if people dont get into BBA after their freshman year? What happens then?

You choose a different major... other than business. LSA has a braod choice of excellent majors. Many would be business majors at other top schools that don't offer a business major decide to major in economics.

Redhare, thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately, my high school only had one AP course... and it happens to be the one UM doesn't count. Thus, I didn't make a bonehead move since I don't have sophomore standing. I'm hoping all you people with a load of hours coming into UM will have made the same "smart" decision to take ACC 271 in the Winter semester, and I won't have to compete against you in the Fall. ;)

Dont worry about not taking acc in the winter, i really dont think that many pre-business students do. Other than that, just take stuff you're interested in because you're more likely to do well in that, and try to get a high gpa of course!
