Would there really be a significant difference in job placement based on the ranking of a business school? Of course, there would be a correlation when comparing a Wharton to Average Joe's U, but what about universities separated by only a few spots? This is probably ridiculous, and I'm sure the answer is "not really." For instance, Stern-NYU vs. Olin-WashU in Stl (two schools I happen to be deciding between).

I think it really depends on the area, and also if you plan on going directly into the workforce. For example, if you would like to work in NYC, then stern is the place to work, as it will take numerous students from Stern, same goes for WashU.

Bump
Bump
Bump

select your school based on what you want to major in, Stern is very strong in Finance and international business, don't know about Olin, haven't heard much of their business school. Stern is an established name, look past the rankings especially US NEWS becasue they often group schools together that are in no way of any comparison to each other. job prospects are very good for Stern graduates. you would much rather go to school in NYC than in Washington, when they cost about the same(Washington might be a bit more expensive).

I also got waitlisted to Cornell AEM, but after talking to admissions my chances seem to be good that I may get in, although I'm not counting on it. Cornell is tied with Olin I believe, both of which are behind Stern. I'm aware that Stern is well-known for finance, something which definitely interests me, but I'm not yet ready to commit to any major yet. Also, legionaire, Olin-Wash U is in St. Louis, Missouri, not Washington (state or city?). Not sure what you were referring to exactly.

sorry, as you can see, i'm not the most knowledgable person to compare these two schools

Haha, no worries.

"Stern-NYU vs. Olin-WashU in Stl "

For general job placement --> no big difference

For investment banking --> big difference, because not all the firms go to WashU to recruit.

and how would Cornell's AEM factor into the equation?

Cornell AEM does just as well in ibanking recruiting as Stern, and you get an ivy league degree...thats just my two cents

For general job places ------> cornell=stern=WashU

For Ibanking--> cornell and stern are roughly the same. stern has a small edge, but not big enough to choose one over another.

Both Stern and Cornell are significantly more recruited and well known than Washington U in St. Louis.

Olin's not a terrible school, but WUStL is one of those instances where rankings shouldn't be trusted as much. Much of its $4 billion endowment went to marketing to boost its ranking.

Whartonnnnnn.

Well, unfortunately Wharton rejected me already :(.
