Does anyone have insight into the differences between the undergrad business schools at BC vs Villanova? As of now, these seem to be my D22’s top choices. I notice a lot of similarities but am having a hard time figuring out the main differences between the programs. Do they specialize in different areas of business? FYI, D22’s interests include management consulting, business analytics, marketing etc. She is not currently interested in finance or accounting.
Have you read the descriptions on P&Q?
Both business schools are strong in accounting. Lots of grads join Big 4 accounting firms.
Both are highly respected business schools.
Thank you for the links. I feel like I have the Poets&Quants rankings embedded in my brain but not the full write-ups. Both programs seem great, and it looks like graduates are successful in securing jobs shortly after graduation. So difficult to uncover the small differences that must exist between the programs.
With all the strength in accounting at these schools, it makes me think I should look on the career center pages and see if either school provides “where graduates go” data. Hopefully they have lots of grads going into all sorts of business fields. Will be interesting to check out.
Great to hear that both are highly respected. It may come down to the feel at each school… vibe of the students etc.
Both are great schools in great locations. My daughter was accepted to both for Business. She chose BC because it’s closer to home. Oddly enough she switched to Nursing early on and was able to do so easily. Who would have thought???
One of the things I like about both schools is that they have a range of options for different career paths, so as kids change their minds, they have choices readily available. BC just added Engineering, which Villanova has had for a very long time. Another difference is that BC has a School of Education with the full range of Teacher Preparation programs. Villanova only offers Teacher Prep for grades 7-12. These may not seem relevant, but I learned from personal experience that young people do change their minds. If Engineering is something that could emerge as an interest, I’d choose Villanova. If teaching is a possibility, I’d choose BC. Finally Villanova has fraternities and sororities, BC does not.
Two fine schools Have your daughter look at the online course catalogues for both schools to get a better idea of what classes are offered in her areas of interest.
This is great info. It’s always helpful to hear from others’ personal experiences! You’re right, switching between schools within a university does happen. Interesting that you gave the example of teaching, as D22 briefly thought about education as a possible major. This will give us something to consider…
That’s a good idea. She’s looking for a school that has many options within business since she doesn’t know what she’d like to focus on. The course catalogue will be a good way to get a feel for things.
