Business Schools

I’m a high school junior and I have started looking at colleges. I am interested in majoring a business, probably with an MBA. What colleges have direct admission into their business schools, or have an assured admission, where I can be guaranteed a spot in the business school?
Thanks.

Where? Here are some my kids looked at: UAlabama, Ohio State, Rutgers, TCNJ, Lehigh, Bucknell, URichmond and Clemson. Some schools have tougher admission standards for direct admission into their Business School as a freshman.

Michigan has pre-admit into the BBA program, but it is extremely selective.

There are also certain 5 year BA/MBA programs. I think Northeastern?

I don’t have a preference where the school is, I just want a good business school, where hopefully I can guarantee a spot in the business school, not spend 4 years and then find out I can’t get into a business school

If you’re interested in going to business/finance, you don’t necessarily have to go to an undergrad b-school. You could major in economics or other quantitative fields and end up having the same opportunities. Not to mention an MBA somewhere down the line. Just my two cents.

Most reputable graduate business schools don’t want people straight out of their undergraduate programs. They want people who have worked for a few years - and preferably demonstrated some real talent for mgt. And those who have worked get a great deal more out of the degree because they can relate it to the challenges they’ve already experienced in the workplace and see the nuances that wouldn’t be obvious to someone who hasn’t worked full-time in a managerial capacity. And they have something valuable to share with class-mates.

Also, it’s not like business school is hard to get into. This isn’t medical school. There are tons of programs that will take anyone who can pay the tuition. Selective schools are…selective. But if you just want to add an MBA to your resume, you can go to night school part-time pretty much anywhere in the country and complete the necessary coursework.

It doesn’t work that way except for, possibly, 5 year programs like @HRSMom mentioned. You have to meet some min requirements for MBA programs and they vary significantly.

Northeastern has no such joint program.

What are your stats? Any other “must haves” in a college? This information will help people to suggest appropriate schools. And for what its worth, I agree that direct admit to a b-school is a big deal.

I have a 3.9 GPA, and I haven’t taken the ACT yet, but I got a 31 on the practice ACT

depends on what major in b-school. For TCNJ one of the hardest to get into is finance and all freshman must commit to a major before being excepted. Can be difficult to change after . It’s the top program in NJ and Top 65 in the country. Also totally disagree with some postings here on MBA, it matters where you undergraduate and they grades you get —if you want to get into a top 10 program, and frankly an MBA is only as valuable as the school it comes from .
So go to good undergraduate b-school that doesn’t cost an arm and leg and spend on top graduate school.

“…and frankly an MBA is only as valuable as the school it comes from.”

Marlarkey! The value of the MBA degree depends upon what you plan to do with it. Plenty of very successful entrepreneurs didn’t attend “top ten” business schools. If you want to work in Lower Manhattan, sure, a Columbia MBA can get you there but let me tell you something you already know; not every successful financier, independent consultant or entrepreneur has a Columbia, Harvard, Pennsylvania etc. MBA degree.

No, but if you want to play the percentages–and have the choice–go Top 10-15 MBA. Often hardest part is getting foot in the door at top tier firms. Not rocket science.

The OP as far as I can see has made no mention of MBA schools.
In terms of direct admit programs, you should get a list of schools you feel are good matches and then look on each school’s website to see if the b-school is direct admit or not. Some schools that I"m pretty sure have direct admit programs offhand you might consider with your stats are NYU, Fordham, Lehigh, BC, Villanova, Bucknell, URichmond, Bentley, Babson and there are tons more.

TCNJ has direct admit and is a tremendous value. Plus its #1 public in North as per USNWR (#3 overall), top 20 accounting program in the entire country, top 75 most competitive schools per barrons, #5 in the entire country at graduating in 4 years… Small classes and almost exclusively focused on undergraduate education. However not
easy admit especially for finance major. Beautiful campus and one of the happiest student bodies in the country.
Also good record of grads going top B graduate schools. Provides all the opportunity you need , rest is up to you.
Ultimately moving on to top grad school is up to the individual student to build a compelling application.

@TomSrOfBoston is right. I was thinking of SUNY Bing

But choosing a good school is more important than the combo thing. Keep that in mind!
