My parents are divorced and my father has his own dental business. I live with my mother. Do I have to fill out the Business supplement even though my dad is noncustodial? Thank you.

If you live with your mother, you would use her income and assets to fill out FAFSA. Your father’s business would not be reported.

If you’re applying to a college that requires the CSS Profile, you and your mother would fill out the Profile. If the college also requires the non-custodial parent form, your father would fill that out and include the Business Supplement to report his business value. The non-custodial parent form is confidential and you/your mother will not see it; it will be sent directly to the college.

Is the business supplement like an additional part included in the noncustodial parent form?

And if I got an email saying that my noncustodial profile was sent, does that mean it was sent to the colleges?

Thanks!

The custodial and non-custodial forms are pretty much the same; both ask if the parent owns a business, and then ask that the parent fill out the business page (section BA).

It sounds like the email is telling you that the noncustodial profile was submitted - did it name a specific college?

“This email serves as confirmation that your 2010-2011 Noncustodial PROFILE Application (NCP) has been submitted, and that payment has been received. Please keep this email as a record of your son or daughter’s CSS ID. You will need to refer to this number for any questions or inquiries to customer service.”

That’s what the email said.

And so basically, it seems like your saying that the business supplement is simply a section in the noncustodial profile, so basically if the NC profile is submitted, then the business part is too correct?

Yes, the noncustodial form would include information about the noncustodial parent’s business.

Okay. And based on what the email said, do you think that the NCP form was sent to the colleges or was it just submitted to the College Board?

I think the non-custodial parent would see the same colleges in the “My Colleges” list as the custodial parent. You might want to confirm with the colleges (in a couple of weeks after the holidays) to be sure they received the non-custodial form.

Thanks so much for the help vball =]
