Hi guys,
The top two schools I’m interested in right now are Georgetown McDonough and UPenn Wharton. I know that Wharton doesn’t compare to any other b-school in the nation, but I love Georgetown’s campus a lot more than Penn’s and my college counselor told me that my chances of getting in REA to Georgetown are higher than my chances of getting in ED to Penn. I was wondering that if I did Georgetown undergrad and then maybe went to Wharton for grad/MBA, would I be at a significant disadvantage in the job market? Are opportunities for business lower at Georgetown?
I want to decide soon so I can focus on where I apply. Should I apply Georgetown REA or Penn ED? I don’t think I’d stand much of a chance with Penn RD.
Please, be honest. Undergrad-wise, is Georgetown THAT much worse than Wharton?
Georgetown is a phenomenal school, and you would have no major barriers to entry among any prestige-conscious employers because of your undergrad.
What I would recommend actually is to go to Georgetown for undergrad, do great, land a decent job at a firm, and then have that firm pay you to attend Wharton after a few years of work experience. You will get SO much more benefit out of that than if you tried to apply to Wharton’s MBA program; an MBA program is really more for experienced professionals than recent college graduates and it is a more enriching and fulfilling experience when you have that business knowledge from really working and can bring it to campus.
Georgetown is not that much worse than Penn. Georgetown is a very strong school with a great business program.
Wharton is incomparable in terms of undergraduate business schools. There are PE firms that hire directly and only out of Wharton.
