That was my son's excuse, too. That, and the fact that the buildings were "too old". Sheesh!

It's bad enough when they offer their own odd reason - but when older daughter dismissed a college because "someone" at her high school told her that everyone who went there was a snob - I had a fit! Yep, they are all snobs. When they interview prospective candidates they eliminate any kid who comes across as accepting and open-minded. Even if you are on FA, be sure to act better than anyone else.

Oh, well. No sense in arguing, once they have an idea we are not going to change it.

My niece won't apply to Carnegie Mellon even though it has everything she wants because she's sure it's too nerdy. Based on one person from her high school and my son. I was impressed with how un-nerdy the kids seem on both visits - especially the women in engineering which is what she wants to do. Oh well her loss.

Sometimes you just want to shake them!

I was saddened when my D said, but X goes to that school. Do you really think it could be a fit for me? Well, yes I did, for many, many reasons. Her argument did seem rational to her.

S was not so irrational, though his great love of Williams and disdain for Amherst did not make sense to me. However, he did graciously state that if Amherst accepted him and Wiliams didn't he would consider going. Isn't he generous? Williams did accept him, and now, a true Eph, he really disdains Amherst. Oh, he won't wear the purple sweatshirt. Only gray with purple lettering.

He almost went to UChicago because their mascot is the phoenix.

D is an athlete and looking at schools for possible recruitment. Just visited Tufts and axed it, said she will NOT play for a team called the Jumbos. :p

My DDs initial draw to Trinity U was due to the fact that they had just seen "The Matrix" for the first time. Apparently the character, Trinity, is a cool chick :-)
