which school is overall better: Butler or IU?

This is too broad of a question. I live in Indianapolis. If I lived elsewhere and wanted to check out private colleges in the midwest it would be on my list. Butler has an attractive campus on the Indianapolis northside, which is a better part of town. Broad Ripple area is popular for night life. I.U. freshman class size is 7400 vs. less than a thousand at Butler. I also noticed on another site that ladies make up approx. 60% of students. You might pose your question on Butler’s forum.

In this case, it really comes down to what you’re looking for in a school. Especially what you’re interests are and what you want to study. When you imagine yourself in college, what do you picture? I am a current student at IU (although I am looking to transfer), but I also visited Butler. If you post more information, I would be very willing to help.

after visiting both schools, i am really torn. I am definitely interested in pursuing a career in science, but I am not yet sure if I want to be a physician’s assistant or doctor. One big turn off for Butler is the girl to boy ratio, but because it is a smaller school, there will be more personalized education. As a current student of IU, why are you looking to transfer out?

Well. I’m from Chicago, and the town of Bloomington is just too small for me. I’m also a foodie, and while Bloomington offers a remarkable (and adorable) little row of international restaurants, I found that people are actually clueless as to how limited Bloomington is.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Bloomington is the quintessential college town. You will have a blast here. You will get a solid education here. You will even probably feel at home here. But in my case, I turned down some very prestigious schools thinking that I would feel comfortable closer to home and enjoy the “typical” college lifestyle. It turns out I was a bit disappointed by both the town and how easy (even the honors) classes are.

If you want the small, personal feel, I would go for Butler. But if you want that college life you see in movies, come to Bloomington. Plus, the campus is absolutely stunning.

Many professors give grades >= A for 1/10 of the students. For honors classes, the ratio may approach 1/3. Some are easier while other may be more difficult. I am curious as to how you would be able to judge the difficulty of a course after the 1st week? Does “easy” equal to “A” in grade?
