Buying a car permit at UCSC

Hi, I would like to know the procedure for buying a car permit on UCSC. For example, do they require to look at your car information like insurance, ownership, etc, or is it just like you pay them and they give u a permit to put on your dashboard?

Thanks!

Depends whether you’re a student or visitor.

As a student, you go to the TAPS office armed with your vehicle registration and your student ID. They will determine there if you are eligible to purchase a parking permit or not. The parking permit is a hangtag for your rearview mirror. It will have your vehicle’s (and any vehicle you’ve ever had attached to your account) license plate number on it. It is not transferable except to other vehicles with their license on the hangtag.

Applications are not yet up for next year.

TAPS sales office is open 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.

As a visitor:

You can go to the kiosk at main entrance. Kiosk hours are 7am to 8pm, Monday through Friday.

How do the carpool permits work? Sounds like 2 people split the cost, which is much less than the regular permit, and both license plates go onto the hang tag. So if your roommate/friend has a car, but does not drive to campus, you can both register, you can pay their half, and you get a cheaper permit.

Not like anyone is checking to make sure there are 2 people in the car when you drive in, is there?

bump …
