Buying books

campusi.com

ALL you have to do is type in your class in google.
ex) For Chem 14A
type in UCLA Chem 14A

most of the time there is a Class Website, where you can see a syllabus already up. There you can see what book you need. If the website is from last years class, just see if there is a newer version book, if not, most of the time it'll be the same book.

go to half.com or amazon.com. Half .com is the cheapest
Most of the books everyone needs will be $70-$80 (even new!) instead of $150.

in regards to Math 31B----so if i get the 2002 Red Edition by Stewart im set?

yeah new books only cost $70-90. make sure u get the right version and stuff.

for 31B, yea i think its the Red one, not the Green one. make sure its the 5th edition tho.

for math 31b does it matter if its the international version?

i think they are the same. but i specifically got the US version.

I believe international is the same text, but I heard it's sometimes printed on cheaper paper and no color so it would be harder to resell to the bookstore.

oh no color... hmm that explains it. yea i saw couple ppl selling international under the same ISBN number... watch out.

You can actually find the ISBN on the ucla textbook page by viewing the source code. This will allow for buying online and making sure you get the right thing.

A good explanation of how to do this: <a href="http://www.livejournal.com/community/ucla/913546.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.livejournal.com/community/ucla/913546.html</a> (scroll down to the comment by ambiguousness)

OMG! i love you! :D

Wow nice. thanks so much. btw the ISBN number is towards the bottom half of the source page for anyone using Firefox. I tried it with Internet Explorer but i couldn't find it due to the "messy" layout of the codes.

Dang, that's a clever trick.

i can only seem to find one of the 3 books that i need

are the model kit listed with the chem14A necessary? I called ucla store and they told me i can't buy the kits separately. Do we actually use the kits?

Oh man, thanx allie. That HTML trick is a cash saver.

would profs/TA's get mad if i have the teachers solution manual for stewart's calculus? or maybe i should keep it in my room and not let anyone see it?

VTECaddict, how did you manage to get the teacher's solution manuel anyways?

lol i dont think the profs would care. it wouldnt really help u for the finals.. actually i think its better to get the teachers manual cuz i assume it tells u step by step how to do each question and at the very least tell u the answers to even and ODD numbered problems. in a way its like a text plus solution manual :)

Hey all! I'm feeling a bit too lazy to figure out ISBNs, ect...honestly, is $170.50 REALLY REALLY expensive for 8 books, all used?

ahh dang it. someone snagged the ebay auction before i did. no more teachers solution manual for me. :(
