BW Housing?

Hey guys! This isn’t really MT related, but can anyone explain to me what the housing situation is like? I know that we have to live on campus for the first two years, but what do most people do after that? Is it easy to rent a house near campus?

@pat131 Yes - I think nearly all of the MT Juniors/Seniors either rent a house, or get an apartment off campus. The MT upperclassmen seem to have a couple of houses that just cycle through to the next set of rising upperclassmen. I know my D plans to move to one of the houses when she’s a Junior. This summer she’s subleasing an apartment in a nearby complex from an upperclassman while she’s in a regional production of American Idiot… she had several choices for summer housing.

Hi @kategrizz where do the freshmen MT students usually live on campus? Kohler Hall, since it is so close to the conservatory? Somewhere else? Thanks!

Freshman actually end up in several different dorms. Mine lived in Constitution her freshman year - which is not really close to the Con at all - but it is close to the Rec Center (ballet bootcamp) and the Union (food). This year she moved to Lang - which is also not close to the Con - but it is across the street from Kleist (theater and dance classes) and is the only dorm with a dining hall inside. Several of her class also lived there Freshman year - or in North which is next door. She loves living in Lang. She tolerated living in Constitution. She has not been the only MT in either dorm. She came of the WL - and so we were probably the last souls to sign up for housing her freshman year - which makes me think Constitution is probably not a top choice dorm! LOL She got really good grades her freshman year - which gave her a really early selection time for sophomore housing… and Lang was where she really wanted to live this year!

She had quite a few classmates that opted for the newer dorms that are suite style and closer to the Con - I think that’s the Richardson complex? But she wanted someone else to clean her bathrooms these 2 years.

Next year, she’s allowed to move off campus - so she and several of her MT classmates are renting a house.

@artskids can talk more about the suite style dorms - I think her S has lived in those if I’m not mistaken!

My S lived in Beech (Honors Dorm) freshman year. Very close to the Con but a bit of a walk to Kleist and the Union. He is in a suite this year (2 rooms - 2 per room with a shared bathroom between them) - Carmel - nicer and more roomy than Beech. Next year, he’s renting a house with 4 other students (mix of MT and other). Quite a few of their classmates lived in Davidson freshman year. They are nice (newer) and very centrally located on campus (I’d say roughly 1/2 way between the Con and Kleist and right across from the Union). Having said that, the campus is small and quite walkable from all the dorms - it is nice to be in one of the centrally-located dorms when the winter winds blow!

LOL @artskids - Davidson - Richardson… I knew it was some guys son!
