Byerly...

Hey,

I've seen you around this forum, and I know you're a major Harvard advocate so I thought I'd post here (most likely place you'll see this). I'm just curious. I know you either went or are currently going to Harvard so I'm just wondering about what you majored/are majoring in there. Also, what type of job did/are you chasing? I'm investigating different majors and seeing what people are doing with those degrees. I'm nervous about choosing a major myself because I'm afraid that I'll get a degree and then not know what to do with it.

(By the way, there's a thread in the parents cafe entitled "trolling" where some people were (lightheartedly) attacking you. I defended you, but you may want to check it out for yourself. Shhh... I didn't say anything. ;))

You may change your idea several times about what concentration to choose after you get to college; most people do. I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Thanks Byerly.

I know that I have until the end of my sophomore year to choose a major (and I actually do have some ideas floating around in my head about what I'm interested in), but I'm still tense about it. Oh well. I guess that's just me. I'll think about this more when I move in on my own campus in, oh, another five weeks or so. :)

thatguyjake,

Thanks for the response since I know that you attempted to reply to this thread with information about Byerly. (I got a confirmation e-mail a few days ago saying that you posted here. However, I thought that it was a little odd that the post didn't show up in the actual thread.) Just so everyone knows, nothing was said that's really important or vital to this forum. (You didn't miss anything.) However, I wasn't going to press Byerly himself (nor anyone else for that matter) for the information if he didn't want to give it to me so you really didn't need to go through all of that trouble. He actually gave me the only information that I really needed when he ansered my post. LOL. Oh well.

Yeah I changed my major a total of two times before I hit my junior year.
You have to explore and get your hands dirty. Dig into the basic courses in philosophy, chemistry, math, physics, english, law, engineering, psychology, business, econ......

Then after two years, you'll know what track you'll want to choose. You'll know exactly what you want to do.

epoch_dreams,

I already began weeding out my options in high school just by attending a magnet school in math and science for half days. (Doring the rest of the time, I was at my home school which was a normal high school.) By taking this route in my education, I learned that I can do subjects in math and science and do them well but that I just don't enjoy them as much as I do other subjects. (Ugh! I still remember writing those formal labs that usually ended up being between fifteen and twenty pages apiece! Especially the one that ended up being thirty-one pages... shudders) I greatly prefer the areas of history, English, communications, etc. over math and science. I guess that's a start. Now all I have to do is figure out which one I like the most and what I'm going to do with my degree...

"Then after two years, you'll know what track you'll want to choose. You'll know exactly what you want to do."

I really hope so. Two years really isn't a long time anymore.

eternity_hope2005,

I also know that you tried replying to this thread last night, but that it didn't work again. I do know what Byerly's major was, but I'm not going to say anything just in case he doesn't want that information to become public. (Hmmm... This thread is really selective in who it lets post in itself. I think that's a little amusing.)

reeses,

This thread isn't selective or anything. I just removed my prior post cause I could care less what Byerly's major was when he was at Harvard.

Regarding your struggle over choosing a major, I suggest you take a variety of courses within your interest. If your interested in the liberal arts; take english, history, business, creative writing courses. At the end of the year after several courses, you'll get a feel as to which specific field to go into.

Reeses, if people delete their post they probably have a reason for doing so. It is in bad taste to make public that they had a post and deleted it.

thinkjose1,

I actually didn't know that we could delete posts. Yes, I didn't know that we could do something as simple as that, and I've been on here for several months now (then again, I never really tried myself). I guess that I just thought that since there's the ten character rule and whatnot, they wouldn't let us do that (or, at least, have it show some sort of evidence that we did post at one point) so I apologize. I learn something new everyday. :)

Mature response.

Thumbs up
