BYU is in Utah and FIU is in Florida. I got accepted to both but is conflicted on which one to choose or is a best fit for my career. I’m planning to be premed and would like an intake on where would be best for me. I feel since BYU is ranked higher, it MAY have a better premed program to help students. I’m not Mormon but have no problem with the rules. However, I having a feeling that I’d be lonely since 98% of the school is Mormon. Is it better to suck it up and go or go to FIU where I’d be closer to family and have a better social experience but have lesser opportunities for premed?
BYU is a very difficult experience for people who are not members of the LDS church. I cannot recommend it to anyone in your situation. Fortunately for Pre Med, the ranking of your undergraduate college or university does not matter. Your GPA, MCAT score, medical volunteer and job-shadowing, and letters of recommendation matter. Choose the place where you think you will be happiest and best able to get really good grades. FIU is a perfectly respectable institution and can help you get into med school if you are willing to put on the work.
They are two COMPLETELY different schools. To be honest, I don’t see how you could even be choosing from those two at the end of your search.
I don’t think you’ll be lonely at BYU as long as you are willing to do the social activities the other students are organizing. There are plenty of sports to watch, hiking clubs, theater, music, etc., just like every other school. My daughter’s BFF is Mormon and D has often attended events with the BFF and family.
I was concerned that if my daughter went to BYU she’s join the church because she always had a lot of fun attending things. She’s a joiner.
So she’s at BYU?
@twoinanddone so she’s at byu?
