Looks like I'll be getting a C+ in one my classes, the first time ever. It's a long story as to why, so I'll keep it short. The class average is a C-, it's not an AP class, it's a graduation requirement, the teacher enjoys handing out low scores to give us a taste of "what life is like." It's just this particular teacher, as well.

we are in the opposite boat, this will be my first semester getting straight As since the 3rd Grade.

Anyway, it depends on whether or not the schools you are applying to want mid-year grade reports, and your GPA. If I may ask, where are you applying?

Hmmm... something that could help you out is if a lot of other people from your school apply to the colleges you're interested in with grades in the C-range in that same class.
It will give admissions officers the idea that it is a class which is difficult to get an A in.

Well, it's really depending on what class it is. If it isn't a core one, then it probably does not matter. If it is, I would call or e-mail explaining the circumstances.

No, it won't ruin you for admission. You might need to supplement with some type of explanation though -- the adcom will want to know what's going on. But ultimately, it doesn't torpedo your chances by itself. They are looking at your full body of work.

The only place I think a single C will hurt is in scholarship consideration. So, it might not keep you from getting in, but could cost you some merit money.
