C+ in senior year. Am I done for?

Looks like I'll be getting a C+ in one my classes, the first time ever. It's a long story as to why, so I'll keep it short. The class average is a C-, it's not an AP class, it's a graduation requirement, the teacher enjoys handing out low scores to give us a taste of "what life is like." It's just this particular teacher, as well.

Will this screw me over for RD?

I got a C in chem 2 ap first quarter (and subsequently still have a C) and I got accepted into a top tier university

we are in the opposite boat, this will be my first semester getting straight As since the 3rd Grade.

Anyway, it depends on whether or not the schools you are applying to want mid-year grade reports, and your GPA. If I may ask, where are you applying?

my unweighted GPA is about a 3.6, our school runs on a block schedule, and my grades will most likely be:

AP Calc: B
AP Physics: B/B-
Philosophy: A+
Band: A-
and then the C+

oh yeah, my SAT is 1470/2100, my SAT IIs are 700 Lit and 710 Bio, and my top choices are:

Tufts
Carleton
Northwestern
U Chicago

oh, nice i have the block schedule as well.

I'd say you have a good chance at Carleton, don't know a thing about Tufts, and I'm thinkin' "ehhh" at NW and UChi.

Actually, FWIW, I think Carleton tends to be pretty similar to UChicago in its admissions...

so you're saying that the C is going to ruin me? what if I managed to bring it up to a B-?

Hmmm... something that could help you out is if a lot of other people from your school apply to the colleges you're interested in with grades in the C-range in that same class.
It will give admissions officers the idea that it is a class which is difficult to get an A in.

well it's not the class that's hard, it's the teacher. All the other classes have an A-/B+ avg.

bump .

Well, it's really depending on what class it is. If it isn't a core one, then it probably does not matter. If it is, I would call or e-mail explaining the circumstances.

why would you call or explain... its only an excuse no valid reason. It will hurt you a little, but not that much. Try to get it to a B though.

it's not a core class. I think I can get it to a B- now.

If it's a class like art or PE and you can get it up to a B-, i would not worry....

No, it won't ruin you for admission. You might need to supplement with some type of explanation though -- the adcom will want to know what's going on. But ultimately, it doesn't torpedo your chances by itself. They are looking at your full body of work.

The only place I think a single C will hurt is in scholarship consideration. So, it might not keep you from getting in, but could cost you some merit money.

YES! thank you all! I am glad this sick sick man will not succeed in his goal of destroying every kid's chance at a decent college.
