Hey there. I’m a current junior at a private school in GA, and am really interested in Brown (will likely apply ED). My school is known by Brown and they usually admit at least 2 per year, which is awesome, but I am wondering what my individual chances might be like. Some stats as of now:
-32 ACT (as of one take- will likely go up)
-3.92 GPA unweighted on a 4.0 scale
-Clubs/Extracurriculurs: school chorale, every school musical (lol), women’s a capella, JV ultimate frisbee (captain), varsity academic bowl (have competed nationally), tutor in remedial English for a refugee student, Girls on the Run junior coach (also began a new team at my school), voice lessons and several placements in vocal competitions
If your school has admitted students to Brown in the past, I’d recommend talking to your guidance counselor (or college counselor, if your school has one), as they’d be in the best position to assess your chances of being admitted in relation to previous admits’ profiles.
Hey, it’s me from the RD page! Your stats seem solid to me. A 32 ACT is nothing to sneeze at, and should place you around the 25th percentile of admitted Brown students. A 3.92 UW GPA is very good, you can’t ask for much better. So long as you are taking rigorous courses, your stats seem totally fine! You may want to try to bump your ACT up to a 33 or 34 just to be safe, though.
Your ECs also look good! You seem to have a lot of interests that you are successfully pursuing, which is great for Brown!
I agree with the above comment to refer to your guidance counselor for some guidance on your chances. I personally don’t know of any alumni from my school who went to Brown to talk to, but hopefully you can find someone!
Some advice would be to continue to engage in your ECs, and to start thinking of essays. You want to communicate why you love what you do, while demonstrating how you will be a great fit at Brown, academically and socially. Also, I highly recommend making a voice portfolio (like I did), and start EARLY to get it out of the way! Also, start thinking about topics for your video portfolio (in case Brown still doesn’t offer interviews)!
You didn’t state the concentration(s) you are thinking about, but that will figure in to how your EC’s are considered by Admissions. If the EC’s are mostly performance-oriented because that’s what you love but your academic plans involve STEM, your chance of admission will be less without relevant EC’s.
FWIW working from the few dozen local secondary schools I’ve run the interviewing for, there doesn’t seem to be much of any pattern in terms of number of students per year from a particular school. Admissions wants whomever they want, which can work out to none from a top HS with 40 applicants while in the same cycle they are taking siblings from a nondescript public HS. So it’s always going to be a roll of the dice vs being able to reliably predict, but you’ve done the hard work to put yourself in the best position possible. Just make sure your application has cohesiveness/focus in terms of how the elements fit together.
