I had a mix of A's and B's on my report cards throughout my high school year, except for up till now. I manage to get good grades in the 1st quarter of my senior year, but i got my first C in an AP class during the second quarter. i was sick during the second quarter, so I believed that the midyear report wouldn't be an accurate representation of my academic performance in school. What should I do at this point? any suggestions?(btw....its kinda depressing to get a C in an AP calculus BC class when i'm majoring in engineering. i hope I'm not gonna get rejected from all of the schools I applied to for that reason)

I have read hundreds of previous posts regarding this since December and concluded: If you are a borderline applicant, especially at top ranking schools, you MAY fail or get waitlisted with a C (in major academic courses); If standing toward bottom, you might get waitlisted instead of barely making it; If you think you are standing around the middle or above, don’t worry.

You had better ask your GC to write to schools why your scores plunged. Mine does.

If you are concerned, you might want to go on to the JHU admissions blog and search out the same question. I do not think there is a real answer or formula to your question. If you had a bona-fide reason for the drop, you COULD write a letter explaining the grade, but be careful not to sound like a whiner or blame circumstances or misfortune. Instead state the reason for the grade, and your plan for catching up and doing better in the 3rd quarter. Re-state your commitment and desire to go to JHU, and hope somone reads it. I would not leave it to a GC unless you go to a small private school that places many into top schools. If you are a public school student, write your own letter.

: Can I send additional recommendations, supporting materials, or updates to my previously submitted application?

Yes. You may submit additional items if they genuinely contribute to your application file. There is no guarantee that items submitted after the deadline will be added to your file. To provide an update to a previously submitted application, mail or fax (410-516-6025) a letter of update to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Please make sure that all materials include the applicant’s full name, birth date, and high school. The Admissions Office is unable to process application updates received through e-mail. Materials such as music recordings, artwork, and course work or research samples must be labeled with your full name, birth date, and high school. (Please note that such items stay in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and do not go to academic departments for

All applicants to Johns Hopkins University are required to have their guidance counselor submit a mid-year report and updated senior year transcript. The deadline to submit this information was Feb. 15.

Applicants who are concerned about their senior year performance can always submit a letter of explanation, just make sure the information is submitted before March 1.
