I am currently attending a CCC and majoring in electrical engineering. I was originally majoring in chemical engineering and because of that, I am currently registered for organic chemistry next semester. This course is no longer required for me because I switched to EE so I was wondering if i should swap it with a second course in C++ (already took intro to C++). I’ve heard that ochem is insanely difficult and I just want to know if continuing with C++ would be a better choice for my GPA.
I agree that it might be a bit pointless to take a very difficult class that you’re no longer required to take.
Take the C++. Besides the GPA consideration, it will be considered a solid job skill by many EE employers.
CCC = California Community College?
If so, check http://www.assist.org to see which course will be more useful for your major at your transfer target UCs and CSUs. For an EE major, it is much more likely that the C++ course will be specifically useful, with organic chemistry being at best usable as a science elective (which you may not need if you already have two semesters of general chemistry). But check.
Orgo offers far better dating opportunities. C++, not as many :))
Seriously, tho, C++ is very useful for EE’s assuming you want to work on software/hardware type projects. If all you care is IC design, or analog, power electronics, or what not, C++ may not be as useful.
O Chem is not insanely hard. That perception is all relative to how hard the other classes in the curriculum are. It could easily be the crux class for a pre-med and be a middle of the roader for a Chem E. That said, there’s little use for it in EE. Why waste your time, and money? It seems like if C++ isn’t the answer, lots of other classes would be before O Chem.
