My dream is to go to UCLA film school. But I understand that the application process for the film school is extremely selective. This might not be such a big deal, because I wouldn't mind majoring in English at UCLA, either. But just to think of other alternatives, what are some universities with good film schools in CA? Specifically I'm looking for universities where there isn't a seperate application process for the film school itself. And I'd also like to stay in a low price range: around UC level and not much higher. Thanks...

If price is an issue, look at UCSB, Cal State Long Beach, San Diego State U, and Cal State Monterey Bay.

If you want to apply to some schools and take a chance on financial aid making up the difference in cost, look at USC, Loyola Marymount, and Chapman.

do you think it would be better to shoot for UCLA (where there's the film school i want to go to most) with the possibility of not getting accepted into the film school? or would it be better to shoot for, say, UCSB, with a "less-of-a-dream" film school that i am guaranteed to be accepted into (if i'm accepted to the university)?

was this worded too confusingly? i hope not.

Have you looked into Chapman University for Film School?

Koushirou - Why can't you do both - shoot for UCLA but have a back up plan? That seems the most reasonable course. You won't be left wondering "what if?"

Chapman, USC and Loyola Marymount are all good film programs and a good financial aid package can bring their cost down close to one of the UC's.

I guess what I'm trying to say is consider ALL options and keep them open until you know what you are offered. BEST OF LUCK!

Well, what I meant in regards to the UCLA question was that even if I get into the university, the chances are slim for me getting into the film school... And I wouldn't find out if I was in the film school until junior year. Meaning if I wanted to continue in film I'd have to transfer to some other school. Or else I could stay in UCLA and not pursue film in college. But anyway, new question...

I'm wondering which of these schools have the strongest "hire-ability". Mainly I'm thinking about internships and other forms of networking that'll tend to get me some jobs. Thanks.

I think you should definitely try UCLA, if it is your dream film school. if you do not get into the program, you can always transfer down to UCSB easily, but it'll be harder to go from ucsb to ucla

Cal Arts!!!
