cable tv in dorms?

there is cable tv available in the dorms, right? is it through a coaxial connection? where in the dorms are the jacks located?

Yes.

10charblahblahblah

yes. i have no idea what a coaxial connection is. and somewhere in the room.

i actually have never brought a tv with me to the dorms. i find that having it there in the room would be too much of a distraction from studying (especially b/c i love to procrastinate.) plus, you tend to make more friends when you have to bum tv time off your floormates!

Yes, there is cable TV available in all of the dorms. The television signal is delivered through a coaxial cable jack (two in each dorm room) that is mounted adjacent to the Ethernet ports located underneath each person's desk.

The jacks are usually on the same panel as the ethernet jack or close by.

So...in a triple, is there a third set of connections?

Nope. Gotta use a router or whatever...

No, there is no third set of connections in triples. You have to borrow a router from the front desk, and share one of the other roommates' Ethernet connection. However, I doubt you would really need three televisions in the same dorm room.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a TV tuner card for your computer rather than bringing in a TV?

yeah, i'm bringing a laptop with a TV tuner, which is why i wanted to know where the coaxial jacks are.

you can always use a jack splitter

If any of you are sports fans, a TV tuner card is really not the way to go.

Buying a TV tuner is a solid alternative to buying a television for your dorm.
They're becoming increasingly popular as USB TV tuners become cheaper.

I had a USB TV last year (and a real one later on) and found it to be fine for almost everything. Sports were the only thing difficult to follow as it seemed rather choppy.

i'm using my laptop as a TV tuner also...
just another reason to spend time on my compie lol. cuz i can't live without my desperate housewives! =P

quality really depends on what kind of laptop and tuner you have...

Personally I don't think TV is that important. After all most of your time should be spent studying as well as other misc. duties.

well, you know. just in case.

why isn't a TV tuner good for sports? (sorry if i'm missing something obvious here)
