CADR Math Requirement Issue

Hello!
I’ll give you some brief background on my educational history.
I was a former Running Start student at Bellevue College and I graduated in June with my high school diploma and Associate’s in Arts and Science.

However, I was not offered acceptance into UW. I assumed it was due to me not taking Algebra II in high school. My HS counselor insisted I just take intro to statistic just to fulfill my HS requirements in which I got a lovely C- in.

I’m still at Bellevue College, currently taking Math 99 and other courses.

Here is where my predicament is.
I’m getting all sorts of different information from different people on the CADR math credit. Some say I should go into math 99 (which is the UW equivalent to math 98) while others say I should take Math& 107 being that I’m going into a liberal arts major (Korean).

My original plan was Math 98->Math 99-> Math 141 to show that I was able to challenge myself and show I’ve grown as a student but I don’t want to have too many credits that don’t apply to major despite there being no Korean classes offered at Bellevue College

I have no idea who’s advice I should consider. I don’t know anyone else who’s been in my situation before. Even the advisors I’ve talked to do not have any idea how to approach this.

pls help :frowning:

How many math credits do you have at the moment? (High school and college?)

Have you spoken with admissions or academic advising at UW?

Here is the transfer sheet - make sure math isn’t your only deficiency.

They seem to want you to have 15 units of Korean. Is there another CC that offers it?

Did you apply to other universities and colleges other than UW? I heard western Washington and the other colleges in Washington are okay too. UW Seattle isn’t all that great trust me, if you don’t need to go to UW I would recommend go somewhere else.

High School- Algebra I and Geometry
College- Intro to Stats and Math 98
I’ve completed everything except the math. I’ve spoken to admissions and advising but I still receive confused answers. Maybe I keep speaking to the wrong people. There is no other CC that offers it. UW recommends I enroll in summer quarter to take the intensive course that takes care of the 15 units. Thanks for the help.

@random12478(* WWU doesn’t offer my major, in fact UW Seattle is the only uni in Washington that does. I’m not going to take your word on UW, there’s some obvious bias against the school. UW, like any school, is what you make of it.

@nnnyiisss Now that you’re not a Running Start student, you are a transfer. You typically need the courses on the transfer sheet. 15 foreign language credits is a lot of work in the short summer term. Can you put in the time to focus on nothing but that? It’s going to be extremely intense and you’re basically out of luck for transferring if your final grade is bad.

That math is weak for a transfer student but should have been fine as a high school applicant. Courses below the 100 level aren’t college level but they should have been high school level college prep. I’m guessing the problem was the low grades?

The transfer fair is today – go talk to the UW rep about what you can do when your community college doesn’t offer the required courses. Print out your transcript and bring it with you. Print out the transfer sheet and fill in everything you have so far. If you don’t get the answers you need, ask who you should contact and follow up.

Within WUE, I found some Korean classes at Utah state.

Umm, thanks for USU stuff, but I have absolutely no interest in being an OOS.
The class is 4 hours long and 4 days a week. I’m sure I have pretty good chance of a good grade. I wouldn’t consider it if I couldn’t do it.

I didn’t place into a college math level when I first became a running start student and no one informed how crucial it was until my senior year. After I took stats, there was never a push for higher level math.
I’ve struggled with math my whole life and no one has helped me.
You know all just take pre calculus and explain why I didn’t take in highschool in the statement.
Thanks for the suggestions.

It’s not healthy to focus solely on one school. I was looking for a backup plan in case you can’t get into UW. The WUE tuition rates are lower than the regular OOS rates.

Were you able to talk to the UW representative today?
