So... i was wondering how hard it is to get into the college of chemistry at cal and how it's ranked among other chemistry departments (i.e., Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Minnesota, etc.) Any input would be great including words of wisdom from current chem students about course load or anything else. Thanks.

Its number 1 in the nation, consistently. It's a spearate college and there are only 2 majors in it, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering I believe so if you do badly, its hard to transfer out. I don't think its one of the hardest majors though it is fairly difficult.

3 with chemical biology

Chem Bio represent.

Whoops, I thought that was a part of mcb. Or something in MCB sounds supiciously like it ...

It might be fairly new?

I do believe you're thinking of biochemistry, which is a part of MCB, and sounds confusingly similar to chemical biology.

Are those rankings for undergraduate?

And, does anyone know how hard it is to get into the college of chem?

It's easier than getting into the College of Engineering but harder than Letters and Science. Average SAT is about 1300/1600 if that helps.

Why do people ask the same questions over and over? Use the search feature next time.

What is chemical biology like?
