What exactly do we DO during Cal Day? (as in, is it worth it?) I'm thinking more along the lines of perhaps getting into some classes and such, since I know I'll be living off campus.

Is there a schedule anywhere?

What exactly do we DO during Cal Day? (as in, is it worth it?) I'm thinking more along the lines of perhaps getting into some classes and such, since I know I'll be living off campus.

Is there a schedule anywhere?

The Cal Day website states that there will be a schedule available online April 1, which is interesting considering today is April 4.

No signing up for classes. That is for sure. The event is more of an open house than for just admitted students.

i meant looking in on classes to see what academic life at Cal is really like (as in the 500+ ppl lecture halls).

and is it just me, or do half the links on the berkeley admit page not work?

And really, is it worthwhile? I'll have to skip out on the 3rd day of Stanford's Admit Weekend, and since I'm not staying in dorms, I don't like the idea of skipping a nice provided breakfast in Palo Alto for the same old "Congratulations" speeches and stuff. If there were classes we could look in on, if we got to talk with professors and stuff...maybe it would be more worthwhile?

I dunno, Cal students, what do you think? Did it convince you to go to Berkeley?

There still won't be any classes, considering Cal Day is on a Saturday. There are some fun things, and in my case, it convinced me to join Cal Band (we'll have some on-campus rallies and random performances that are tons of fun to watch). There's food and activities and stuff, but...uh...eh.

so is it worth comming?

i think it's worth coming if you're deciding between colleges just to get a sense of the environment but if you're set on Cal then it wouldn't make much of a difference

How many 500+ lecture halls are there?

The lectures and activities of Cal Day are fun and informative. There are way too many lectures (last year, I wanted to attend about 50 that I couldn't make becaues of time conflicts). You can see a lot of the campus. I advise people come, in additoin to Cal Day, on a "regular" day, just to see what Berkeley is more usually like.

What do you want out of Cal Day?

a reason to go to Cal over Stanford.

A few activities to do on Can Day that I enjoyed/found helpful last year included visiting all the booths in front of Dwinelle and Wheeler (near Sather Gate)- got a redwood tree seedling and I planted it in my backyard at home :) plus other free stuff, visiting the different dorms, going to the FPF informational session. There is more than enough to do, so I'd suggest that you plan out what you want to do that day with your parents the night before.

You should arrive before 8am if you want to find parking that isn't too far.

Oh and is there anything for the little kids while my parents and I go soak in Cal? I'm pretty sure my bro wouldn't want to be walking around the whole day..

You hopefully won't be soaking, and they are having many activities for little kids specifically.

Cal Day is an opportunity for those students still deciding which university they would like to attend. Most, if not all, departments will be out on Cal Day distributing information. You'll have Cal Band out and other activities. Last year, AROTC scaled down Wheeler Hall.

It's a great way to see the campus. You won't be able to visit lecture halls since it is a Saturday. However, visit Berkeley on a regular week day to see what a real day at Cal is (and drop in classes).

But if you've already decided, more or less, to go to Stanford, then don't bother and waste your time.

so we will for sure be able to tour the dorms then? i have no idea right now which room to apply for. that's basically the only reason i'm going, besides to convince my dad that berkeley isn't as evil as he thinks it is. lol.

(by the way, is it true that it makes no difference when you send your housing app in as long as it's before the deadline? is there a lottery system or do you have a better chance of getting your first choice if you send it in early? i've heard both.)

it's a lottery system; it does not matter when your application is submitted. this information is available on the housing website. there are also virtual tours and information about each dorm and type of room. and yes, touring the dorms is a part of cal day.

thought housing is guanranteed for entering freshmen for two years. Thats what it said on their website.

Yes, but you still need to submit your application before the deadline, or else you will forfeit the two guaranteed years.

the lottery system is for your preferences to be met, not for you to receive housing or not at all

unlimited and 1204, are you upper class students at Berkeley? If so, do you live on campus or off campus? Thanks for your insight
