berkeley more hot girls than usc?
are u smoking?
have u been to usc?

haha dmc.. I didn't go to Cal Day but I'm still going to cal... sent in my SIR a while ago =P

The girls weren't ugly at all, they were exactly at the level that I thought they would be at.

"The girl next door hot"

The EECS information session was WEAK, and so was the bioeng session, Mr. Jatindra Malik had to lie through his teeth to some of the time, it was quite awful. My dad confronted him after the session and asked him about the various claims he was making (all the engineers getting jobs, going to grad school, having a future, etc), and he said that Mr. Malik quietly sidestepped the issues at hand. The EECS students at the IEEE table themselves seemed vary that the job propects.

The Cory Hall tours were stupid also, most of the rooms were locked, and the students were like "..........yea, maybe if you look through that blurry door you can see something". My dad was questioning the living **** out of these guys also... it was hilarious to watch them squem under his evil glare.

I'm pretty unimpressed by EECS. Seems like an easy way to destroy your future. I mean, grade DE-flation, along with the fact that UCB doesn't like to accept its own undergrad? W-T-F? Bioeng isn't even ABET accredited. Awful, its only real purpose would probably be for dual majoring or such.

UCSD Bioeng>UCB EECS.

Boo!

People's Park should be avoided at night. You can walk by it, but don't step foot inside cause you'll probably step on a needle or a sleeping prostitute. No area in Berkeley is that bad during the day, but at 2 am I definiteley wouldn't want to be walking around in a couple of places. The general rule is that the further you go down either telegraph or shattuck towards Oakland, the worse off you're going to be. Thats true for all streets going to Oakland expect College ave, which actually gets nicer the closer you get to Oakland.

hahaha it all seems SO AWESOME. I can't wait to go to a place with an actual LIFE! I'm soooo sick of san diego suburbia ohh man... all I see here is nicely landscaped lawns and golf courses and plaza's with the same chain restaurants

just a quick comment about bioe... i was just talking to a friend in the program on friday and she basically said the ABET thing is stupid. to get a specific bioe track accreditted, you have to take all engineering classes and very few bio. given the option, most kids wouldn't go that way anyway. most of UCSD's tracks aren't accreditted either.

that said, if you're dead set on bioe, SD is still the place to go. if you're not sure about your major, berkeley may be a better option as most programs, whether engineering or humanities, are relatively top-notch.

They call it Bio-Engineering for a reason. If you don't want to be an engineer, be a Biology major.

i do not understand your comment

unlimited, see post immediately above mine from flippity

wow joemama, thanks for that. I thought BioE were better but I guess not so now. But it is kinda weird that BioE IS THE hardest Engineering major to get into at UCB, even more so than EECS (although I'm sure a lot of you could debate this, that's what I got from Moore's Report). Still this hasn't screwed me over because I' undeclared-eng, so that's the good news.

UCSD has 4 BioE majors: BioEngineering, BioE-Biotechnology, BioE-Premed, BioE-Bioinformatics. Only the first two are ABET-accredited and not by coincidence are they the two impacted majors (meaning only a certain many students can get in). I didn't know much and chose Premedical and I'm pretty sure that I DON'T want to go UCSD because I'm just considering medical school as an option, not what I prefer. That said, I think I'm going to UCLA definitely now... just gonna visit one last time.

flippityflop: yeah I heard the BioE guy in the auditorium giving the speech saying that as well. He said something about ABET being stupid because it is not flexible and takes away from the BioE major so they didn't go for accredation and instead went for flexibility. But as joemama pointed out, it seems like in the real world, a BS major in BioE is less respectful than a BS in ChemE or EE.

Anyways I hope you all enjoyed Cal Day. Berkeley is still very very good!

Hmm.. where is the report saying BioE is the hardest to get into?

umm search for Moore's report. also the guy in BioE auditorium said that it was the hardest and he said "you should all be very proud to be the best of the best" etc. u can debate this. i dont care but point is BioE is up there with EECS at Cal and just about all the other UCs too.

Hey guys, I'm not the expert. The link I posted was to another thread where a PhD in BioE shared his thoughts. You should read it yourself and draw your onwn conclusions. He may know what he's talking about, but maybe not.

The upshot is, if you come out of an ABET approve BioE program you will have been required to take a lot of real engineering courses, plus math and physics...something most employers respect.

Another way to do it: You could also get an ME or EE degree and minor in Biology. A different road to the same end.

The point is that a Biology major that doesn't take enough engineering, physics and math courses, is going to have a hard time winning BioE jobs.

Take all this with a grain of salt, I'm no expert.

The two hardcore ABET-approved BioE tracks at UCSD are "impacted." Don't know about Cal, UCLA or others.

are you trying to say bioE is not really an engineering major because it doesn't require a lot of real engineering courses?

unlimited: In Calkidd's post he implied that some BioE programs are thought to have too little real engineering courses and so are viewed as being inferior. But, like I said, read it yourself.

bioE is still a relatively new major, so I guess it will be seen as "inferior" for quite some time, maybe.

I think the point is: Go for the most rigorous BioE programs offered. Duke, UCSD, Johns Hopkins etc. And I'm sure Berkeley's program will be right with them in a few very short years.

Conor: Which dorm room do you live in? (I met a Conor at Unit 2, Cunningham and I'm wondering if it's the same person...they're probably thousands of Conor's, but I'm just wondering)

Wasn't the speech given in HAAS Pavillion about admitted freshman kind of annoying. Everything they said was...."Class of 2009 has been the smartest class ever admitted to Cal".....it seems like they say this to every admitted class.

Anyways, to all the ppl who claim that there are ugly girls at Cal, I say that they are full of ****. I have never seen so many HOT chicks at one place during my entire life. The Asian and Indian chicks were the best of them all......
