@ayymeer - Yes, that does mean that you will have 4 years remaining.

@cosmisbubble - They will give you pell grant (unless you used 12 semesters worth) and university grant. The rest will comprised of loans. Since you will have no more cal grant, they will try to accomodate by increasing your university grant, but it won’t be anywhere close to cal grant.

@integraballer No thats not how it works haha. Your cal grant B will remain the same when you transfer schools, its just the amount that will change.

@wwlink No, you will have 4 years of cal grant remaining still, but only the first 2 years can you qualify for blue & gold.

@rD: How did you do that? Referring back to my calgrant award it said I had 1 year of eligibility remaining (for 2011-12).

From the info pdf:
“• As a Cal Grant recipient, you may receive up to the equivalent of four years of full-time grant payments. The phrase
“program length” refers to the number of academic terms that you may be eligible to receive Cal Grant payments. The
duration of your eligibility will be based on your educational level at the time you receive your first Cal Grant payment.”

So if you come in as a Junior, you get 2 years of coverage :(

@wwlink - You had to call them and ask to be put on reserve. Not really sure about the PDF but I knew at the time of my first cal grant payment I was still considered a freshman even though it was my second year of college. (>30 units) For me, for 2011-2012 it says I have 3 years remaining. Those 3 years will be spent at my UC.

At my CCC, i was awarded Pell Grants and BOG fee waivers. I’ve been at a CCC for 3 years and hope that doesn’t affect the amount of grant I will be getting at UCSB

So even though my preliminary financial aid award notice states that I will receive a “possible cal grant A”, I will really be getting the cal grant B instead?

And the cal grant A is $12,940 something. Is the cal grant B around the same amount? more or less?

@Acoustickitty123 Pell grants are separate. The maximum amount of semesters for pell grants is 12 semesters. This won’t effect your cal grant at all. But watch out as you are getting close to the pell grant maximum.

@integraballer yep, the maximum is the same for A and B either way.

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) has reviewed information from your FAFSA and GPA and determined that you will not be awarded a Cal Grant Entitlement award.

Funny thing is, while at CC I received cal grants, pell grants, and got all my fees waived
WHAT THE HECK MAN!! now that I am planning on transferring I don’t get anything??!! Our system is skrewed up! I’m a good student 3.7gpa only been at CC for 3 years, didn’t apply for fafsa until my second year.

Does this mean I won’t receive any grants A, B, or C?
What about competitive awards am I disqualified for those too?

What is the max EFC that qualifies for cal grants? Pleas help!

i am uber stressing out about all this paying ***, and also the fact that you still have to pay deposits, and your first housing payment without any aid!!! you get reimbursed, but my efc was o. this sucks. anyways… is there a way to still get cal grant? and is there any 24 or older students who got aid and put their parents info?

i am 24 and a transfer, i am ‘independent’, i do live with ym bf but he has an actual career in computers and makes more than my parent who also supports my other sibling. anyways… these are my offers, which i accepted… is there a way to change or no since i acccepted…

also i only got Cal grant B for one year of CC, i decided to not apply and reserve the other years so i can have it for university, i mean i got the bog so there wasnt much to pay anyways.

Total COA: $32,226
Federal PEll Grant: $5,500
UC Grant: $14,750

Net Cost: $11,926
loans:$5,550 and $6,426

should i just call financial aid and see what my options are? thanks.

would ppl recommend entering my parents amount in fafsa?

^^^^ i just logged in and saw my cal grant b is pending. i tried to log in before but it didnt work, alas i am on the same page now as most of you. also btw if there is any info for independent students who put their parents info…

So here’s the situation…I’m in my last year b4 transferring. I have used the cal grants given to me by my cc for 3 years. I just checked my cal grant and it is still being sent to my cc…is there any way to change it to the school im transferring to? The bottom says the end of june, but im wondering if the cal grant changes from jc to USC for example…does the amount get higher? In addition…can i only change to another jc or can I change to a four year university. I want to compare the financial costs between schools and it seems like I can’t do that without knowing the amount of financial aid that i get.

Pending Cal Grant Renewal

In order for your Cal Grant to be renewed:
You must have financial need of at least $100 for the renewal year,
You must have filed a current year FAFSA, listing your school of attendance,
You must be attending a participating Cal Grant school,
You must have remaining Cal Grant eligibility, and
CSAC must have received either a request for payment for all terms or a leave of absence (LOA) request.
If you have met the conditions above, your Cal Grant will be renewed by the end of June. If your Cal Grant is renewed, the current school on file will be notified. If a school change or leave of absence request for the upcoming academic year is necessary, it will not be allowed until your Cal Grant has been renewed, at which time you will be required to go to the School Change and Leave of Absence screen to submit your request.

So let me get this straight for my records:

I got blue and gold plan and Cal Grant B (they won’t let me have it)

My gift aid is

Federal Pell Grant is 5,550.00
Federal Supplemental blah blah is 300.00
UC Grant is 14,911.00
Total = around 20k

and my net cost is 8,900.00

then all of my gift aid is towards all for tuition? then I won’t have anything left, not a dime from that 20k…*** so I HAVE to pay that 8,900.00 no matter what (can’t use my aid package to cover that)

If you’ve been awarded a cal grant and it’s not showing up in your UC’s financial aid, it will eventually… you can poke at the finaid guys and they’ll fix it, but it does indeed replace some or all of your UC grant/scholarship if it’s a blue and gold type thing (it probably is)

^^yeah Irvine cost nearly about $15k, so yeah about ~5g per quarter

I subtracted the direct costs (tuition, health fee) from my Gift Aid which equals around ~$6,000 left which is not enough for me to cover on living expenses and maybe books?? my housing monthly is about $800 or $860 (don’t know yet) and comes out around 10K per year so I think I should get a loan

heard this from someone:

"It’s also very important to keep in mind that your net price calculation, no matter the inputs, is only an estimate of what you’ll pay if you enroll at the school. The calculators use aid data that already exists, rather than projections, so your estimate won’t accurately correlate to what you might pay years in the future.

Even if you’ll be starting school in the next calendar year, your actual cost may be thousands of dollars different than the calculator’s estimate"
