Cal Grant Confusion?

I have two FAFSA lists, and my UC’s were the top schools in my first list. In my Cal Grant, USC (2nd list, not the top) is the only one there, and my UC’s are not, even though I am eligible for Cal Grants. How can I fix this? And how does Cal Grant work? Why do I only have one school there, and do I only need to put at least one UC in my Cal Grant, or all of the ones I’m applying to?

Can you ask your guidance counselor for help? Or call the California Aid Commission?

Did you submit FAFSA with 10 schools, then wait a few days until it processed and then corrected the FAFSA to remove some schools to add new schools and resubmit?

Do not procrastinate, find out if you did everything needed to get a Calgrant, deadline is March 2 I believe

@mommdc I am calling CSAC right now, but they are extremely busy so I haven’t been able to talk to an official. Yes, I submitted my 10 schools, and then put in the rest of my schools. After filing our 2015 taxes, I corrected it and resubmitted them again. This was all done in January. My school submitted my GPA. I did everything to get a Calgrant, so I’m confused why my UC’s aren’t there.

I’m sorry I can’t help more, could it be that they are just putting one CA school in and then you have to update it later.

Keep trying to contact someone, by email or phone.

@ucbalumnus, do you know about Calgrants?

Just to clarify, when you updated the FAFSA with tax information, you did the update to both lists of schools, right?

And all schools are listed on your student aid reports?

@mommdc Yes, when I updated, I made sure I sent the corrections on both lists. However, when I look at my current SAR online, it shows my 2nd list (most recently sent after correction) of schools only, which doesn’t include the UC’s. The 1st list I sent before has my UC’s. But I did get a SAR every time I sent corrections out. I also called one of the UC’s and confirmed that they received my FAFSA.

@mommdc Could it possibly be because my current SAR has my 2nd list, which has USC? Even though I have a SAR for each correction and list?

@mommdc I forgot to add that Stanford was not on my Cal Grant, but is in my SARs…I wonder what I’m doing wrong? USC wasn’t even on the top of the list and it was on my Cal Grant.

I really am not sure.

Can you send your correction one more time to all the UCs just to be sure?

Did you just enter new numbers or did you use the data retrieval tool in the FAFSA to import from tax return directly?

How long fid you wait before you submitted your 2nd list of schools? @Kelsmom may have a suggestion for how to get the other list of schools to show on the SAR. I think I’d resubmit the 1st list and see what happens.

This is what the following link says about order of schools on FAFSA to qualify for state aid:

Is USC an eligible in-state college for Cal grant?

^ Yes. Any public/private 4 yr non profit inside CA will do. Amount does vary though.

@austinmshauri I submitted my 2nd list right after I got my SAR for my 1st list. Ok, I will resubmit my first list after I get an e-mail reply from CSAC. @kelsmom Yes, do you have any suggestions? I have SARs for each correction and list, but they can only list 10 schools at a time.

@mommdc I entered new numbers manually, because my parents file their taxes separately and am therefore not eligible to use the IRS data retrieval tool. But from what I’ve researched, not using the IRS tool is ok.

I have the same issue, except that I have 3 UC’s on my list, none other of my 10 schools. At first, I thought it had to do with admission, except that I already got into all my Cal States and they are not on my award list thing. I just emailed my counselor, hopefully they’ll help!
