I'm going on my fourth year (fall '12-13) as a CCC student before transferring to UCSB.

I accepted Cal Grant B the first two years, and have been it offered for 2011-13. I'm told you get it for four years.

Can I put it on hold until I transfer to UCSB? Where can I check how many years I have of eligibility? Are you allowed to accept it for four years, or do you have a four year time slot to receive it?

Thanks!

Clock ticks every semester you are in school regardless if you apply for, qualify for or use it.

You can “bank” that 4th year at CCC and then use it at the UC. Don’t know the mechanics of that, though. Ask your CCC to help.

To clarify the above, the clock ticks once you are awarded Cal Grant and not simply based on being in school. I chose not to apply until I transferred so I did not have to deal with the on hold mess. I had credits dating back more than four years.

Those who enter as frosh get four years. Transfers (juniors) get two years. The number of years of eligibility depends on when you entered. So if someone enters college as a sophomore, they only have three years even if it’s their first year.

You can only put an award on hold for up to three years. You cannot bank years. As mentioned, the clock does tick once you are awarded the grant. You can check your status (including remaining eligibility) at CSAC’s website.
