Ok, I graduated from out of state high school, and I'm planning to enroll in a California university/community college next fall, my parent resides in California so I'll be considered a state resident
but I'm a bit confused about the requirements to apply for Cal Grant
the California student aid commission website says that I have to be a California high school graduate and on another page it says I have to be either a high school graduate or a GED holder, doesn't that mean I can hide my high school diploma and get a GED ??
Thanks in advance

I doubt it. Someone who got a GED and qualifies probably went to a Calif high school at some point to get the Cal Grant. I doubt you can claim that you never went to high school and just get a GED.

Are you saying that you wouldn’t provide ANY high school transcripts???

Remember, lying has consequences.

no i’m not going to lie, just little puzzled how the qualifying rules work

here’s what they have on the website

To be eligible for a Cal Grant you must:

* Submit the FAFSA and your verified Cal Grant GPA by the deadline
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (your parents dont need to be citizens or eligible noncitizens)
- Be a California resident when you graduated from high school
- Have a Social Security number
- Attend a qualifying California college
- Not have a bachelors or professional degree (except for Cal Grant A and B extended awards for a teaching credential program)
- Have financial need based on your college costs
- Have family income and assets below the established ceilings
- Meet any minimum GPA requirements
- Be in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate
- Be enrolled at least half time
- Have registered with U.S. Selective Service (most males)
- Not owe a refund on a state or federal grant, or be in default on a student loan

AND

Got a GED? Dont Have a GPA? You Can Get a Cal Grant.

Some students don’t have a GPA, so certain test scores can be used instead. Please submit your test score along with the GPA Verification Form.

*
If you have a GED, submit your GED score directly to the California Student Aid Commission.
*
If you graduated from a school that doesn’t provide grades, is not accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or another regional accrediting agency, or doesn’t have a course list approved by the University of California you must provide your ACT, SAT or GED score.
*
If you were home-schooled or attended a charter school you must submit your ACT, SAT or GED score.
*
If you graduated from high school more than five years ago you may provide your SAT or ACT score, or use a re-established GPA from your grades at a California Community College.

You have to have been a california resident at the time you graduated from high school. If you don’t provide transcripts from your HS they are going to want some sort of proof that you were a resident of CA at the time you graduated HS. Were your parents CA residents at the time you graduated HS? If you lie about it you are committing fraud, not a good idea.

yes, one of my parents was a California resident at the time I got my HS diploma, state residency is out of the question, I’m just confused whether I have to be a California HS graduate or not
