Hey guys. i went to High School in a foreign country and finished my diploma there i got approved for cal grant but was asked about high school, am i eligible for cal grant? btw i moved to California as a legal permanent resident 2013.
I think you need to graduate from a CA high school to be eligible for the Calgrant. Also, IIRC, you have to use the Calgrant or put it on hold within a couple of years of HS graduation.
But I’ll let a CA resident chime in!!
@mom2collegekids do you know?
How old are you?
In addition to meeting the financial criteria and Cal Grant requirements, you must:
-Students that did not graduate from high school, but were a California resident on their 18th birthday (if you applied through the Dream Act application, living in California) on their 18th birthday.
-submit the FAFSA or CADAA application and your verified Cal Grant GPA by the deadline
-be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen or meet AB540 eligibility criteria
-be a California resident for 1 year
attend a qualifying California college
not have a bachelor’s or professional degree
-have financial need at the college of your choice
-have family income and assets below the minimum levels
-be enrolled or plan to enroll in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate
be enrolled or plan to enroll at least half time
-have registered with the U.S. Selective Service, if required to do so
-not owe a refund on any state or federal grant or be in default on a student loan
-not be incarcerated
-maintain the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards as established by the school. Recipients who do not meet the standards are ineligible for Cal Grant payment and will not use eligibility during the terms they are ineligible for payment.
@Gumbymom I turned 23 this month, I moved to USA in February 2013 so when I turned 18 I had been living in California for a year also do I have to graduate from HS in US because I went to HS here but counselor advised me since I already have my hs diploma from my previous country I should just go to college I have attended CC for three years and I am transferring to 4year with gpa above 2.4 to meet cal grant req I’ve been tentatively awarded cal grant but on hold because they asked where or if I finished high school diploma
@Gumbymom I did not apply thru dream act but I was a resident by if being resident means I was living here for a year before my 18th birthday yes.
Then you should be ok for eligibility according to the above requirements. I would confirm with your CC and where you plan to transfer.
@Gumbymom thanks a lot, hope you have a great rest of your day
Great! Glad @Gumbymom was able to clarify.
