I am a transferring student going to a CSU. I am also an ab540 student.

I applied for a cal grant last year, thinking I was going to transfer. Last minute, I decided to stay and changed the school of attendance on the webgrants website. I called to verify that everything was alright with my account. The representative said it was fine. I again applied this year, way before the March 2nd deadline.

I finally transferred this year. I checked the webgrants website, and since I was a renewing cal grant student it indicated that I did not need to submit my gpa verification. I did not worry about it. I went to the CSU I am transferring to and turned in all my forms (non-resident exempt and verification for CA Dream Act). I would periodically check my webgrants account, and it still says that my CA Dream Act is not yet verified, even though I have double and tripled checked with my CSU and they told me they already processed my form.

I've called the hotline, and they now told me that I needed to resubmit my GPA verification form since I did not transfer last year. The representative then looked to make sure my school did not submit a GPA verification form for me without me knowing. He checked, and he realized that they did.. just under a different name. It was due to my last name being too long to fit on the CA Dream Act application, and it was not matching. He then told me that they would have to verify that the GPA verification form and my CA Dream Act are going to the same person (me). It will take a month to process all of this.

I am really confused. I have spoken to several representatives, and I don't know what else to do. I received an award last year when I thought I was going to transfer, and then it changed to a community college award once I changed my school of attendance. There was not an issue with my name then. I was thinking I was going to receive a transfer entitlement award, but they told me they withdrew it since I didn't transfer that year.

Nobody is giving me a straight answer. My EFC is 1530, so I don't even know if I will be getting a cal grant. Has anyone gone through this, or something similar? Even if I submitted everything on time, but they are processing my application just now, will I still be getting an award? I talked to the financial aid office at the CSU, and all they have told me is that all I can do is get on an installment plan for my tuition, since I don't qualify for any other grants. I am so heartbroken. I have been at a cc for 6 years already, due to my financial situation and citizenship.

Any advice or suggestions will be much appreciated.
