Do I have to do anything for my 2010-2011 Cal grant to renew? I'm currently receiving cal grant awards as a freshman and I'm not sure if I need to send in another GPA verification form or anything like that. Any current sophomores and up have experience in this? TIA

No, you don’t need to do anything.

thanks!
10-char

on the website, it says they will automatically submit gpa verf form for students above 24 units. So if we are at below, i think we have to go back to HS and submit it again.
Any sophomores did it this way last year?

nah. at least i didn’t. how can you possibly get over 24 units as a freshman in his/her first semester anyways?

idk…im confused as well. That’s what it says on the financial website in cal grant category

UC BERKELEY FRESHMEN SHOULD GO BACK TO THEIR HIGH SCHOOLS SO THAT THEY WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ENTITLEMENT AWARDS.

However, as a service to students the Registrar will send to CSAC the GPAs of all currently enrolled students (except new freshmen) who had earned 24 college units (not including AP units) by the end of Fall 2008.

Students whose GPAs will NOT be automatically sent include new freshmen (regardless of units earned) and students who have less than 24 college units after excluding AP units.

Do community college credits count towards your 24 units?

idk Luprius. but u almost took his cal grant away by not tellin him the correct info

im kind of confused by this cal grant business too, can someone help me out too?
-im a new spring admit
-on my award summary in bear facts, all my finaid has the status of “Accepted” except cal grant
-the webgrants4students.org also gives me the same msg about gpa verification as people stated above
what the heck do i do now?!

@33hours- I did a little more digging and I’m pretty sure you are incorrect about that, the information you just posted is for people who didn’t apply for cal grant before (i.e. didn’t apply for freshman year or didn’t qualify before), why would a freshman have to send in another verification form from their HS if they already sent in the same exact GPA last year for their freshman year. It didn’t change at all, well unless you hacked their systems or something.

I received a Cal Grant in 2008-2009. Do I need to file a GPA Verification form again?

If your award is in good standing, i.e., you attended school and were paid your Cal Grant or your award was on reserve or you had a Leave of Absence from the Cal Grant program, then your Cal Grant will be automatically renewed for 2009-10, and you only need to file a FAFSA.

The stuff you posted above ^ goes under FAQ #6 not 5

I am a freshman/1st year college student with more than 23 college units and I currently do not have a Cal Grant. Why do I need to go back to my high school for the GPA certification?

To be more clear. this is from UCLA’s FAQ

I am currently receiving Cal Grant. Do I need to complete a GPA Verification Form?

No, a verified GPA is not required. To continue receiving a Cal Grant, students must complete a new FAFSA each year. Grants are renewed if students show a financial need, which is evaluated by the campus they will be attending.

Even more info, from UC Davis site: (36 for them compared to 24)

If you are currently receiving a Cal Grant award you do not need to complete a GPA verification form. Your Cal Grant will automatically be renewed as long as you file a 2010-2011 FAFSA and you continue to have financial need (as determined by the FAFSA).

If you are not currently receiving a Cal Grant award and had 36 units as of Fall 2009, then we have already reported your GPA to the California Student Aid Commission. If you did not have 36 b** units as of Fall 2009 then you will need to have your previous school b** complete the GPA verification form for you. You will also need to file a 2010-2011 FAFSA by March 2, 2010.
