Hello! I'm a transfer applicant to Berkeley right now, but I have a question on financial aid based on the offer letter based on the offer I got from Cal last year as a senior-in-high-school applicant.

I know that if a student (like me) has their maximum grants and scholarships without the Cal Grant, whatever Cal Grant offer she does get simply replaces some Berkeley grants (and doesn't contribute at all to reducing the student's share). I also thought this was the same case if students got outside scholarships--but current Cal students tell me if they defer the scholarships until after the fin. aid acceptance period has ended, these scholarships actually do end up helping them. Has anyone heard about something like this happening with Cal Grants (that is, is there some way to make use of them?)?

If you have any info, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! :)
