Cal made things harder for me... :(

Originally on MWF, I was going to have a (daily) language class in Barrows from 9 to 10, followed by a math 53 discussion in Evans. Then some genius changed the math discussion location to Etcheverry... practically across the length of the campus! Way to make this update 14 days ago, when many math 53 discussions were already filled up (especially the 9:00 on in Evans... how was I supposed to forsee this change at CalSO?)

I can always use a bike (and ignore the risk of having the bike stolen, since all bikes get stolen every time, that's life). But let me consider some other options first...

I can be bold and attempt to walk/run. Then again, there's that construction thing near Etcheverry and Evans right now, right?

I can also change the language class to 11:00 at Dwinelle... which is a trip downhill, right? Problem: On Mondays, I have Chem 4A at 12:00, followed by the lab. This means 7 hours of classes/lab in a row.

I should stick with biking, right? In other words, this is just perfect...

The construction isn’t that obstructive. I think you should do a trial run/walk and time yourself :P.

Barrows to evans can be easily done…
Dwinelle to Etcheverry can be done around in 6-7 mins…
what are you worrying about?

Barrows to Etcheverry (it’s not Evans anymore)? The choice to have seven hours of classes/labs in a row on Mondays?

The 7 hours in a row depends on you. Do you feel as though you can handle it? I personally think it is better to rush to class everyday for only 10 mins (whether it be walking or biking) instead of suffering 7 hours XD.

Unless you have a quiz at the beginning of class, being late to discussion isn’t a big worry. Your GSI can deal.

Oh barrows to etcheverry. It took me about 10 mins last semester.

Dwinelle to Soda(next to etch) takes me like 20 min…

*** are you smoking? Dwinelle to Etcheverry takes 10 minutes at the very least unless you run like a maniac across the campus.

hahahah tastybeef has a point

I was in a very similar situation last year, except my class before the Etcheverry class was in Le Conte. Since they’re probably still doing construction for CITRIS, the fastest way is to take the Cory elevator up to the second floor. When you exit the building, you’ll be on Hearst Ave., and Etcheverry will be right down the block. You could also just walk straight down and exit campus from North Gate, but then you’d have to walk all the way uphill to get to Etcheverry.

Don’t worry about showing up late for math discussion. Our discussion quizzes always took fifteen minutes, and our GSI always accepted homework and quizzes from people who came in even half an hour late. On days when there’s no homework due or quizzes, it’s sort of a waste of time to go unless you have a really good GSI.

I have had to go from Etcheverry to Barrows – I mean, if you cut straight through everything, and go down those stairs after crossing the tower, you should be fine, just be brisk and don’t linger after your class. The construction does get a little annoying, because you end up having to go to North Gate and then walk uphill on Hearst.

And seriously, there’s no way a GSI is going to worry if you’re a slight bit late. I’ve had to make it from getting lunch out of campus in Southside all the way to Etcheverry for class several times, and as long as you walk briskly it’s no issue.

Segway .

How long does it take to get from Valley LSB to Latimer? And from Pimentel to Dwinelle?

Pimentel to Dwinelle is quite easy with a decent pace. VLSB-Latimer might be harder – similar sort of travel distance, but VLSB is behind Dwinelle, and who knows what random room you’re in – to actually get from room to room will take longer than covering the rough distance between buildings, which actually shouldn’t be that bad.

Yeah, I didn’t think it was that bad, but I wanted to be sure

Cool, thanks for your help! That’s reassuring… Of course, can’t hurt to do a “test walk.” If only if I can find Etcheverry… :P

It is a pretty long distance
