Cal Poly ACT score policy

Hi~ I heard that Cal Poly only looks at English and Math section scores of ACT, not Composite score. I couldn’t find anywhere on their website to mention about it. It this info correct? Thanks!

The ACT english and math sections are the only scores that contribute to your MCA.

The ACT composite score is what is used in the eligibility index calculation for all the CSU’s (Cal Poly Pomona included) except Cal Poly SLO. SLO does not use an eligibility index for admissions but an MCA score and they will look at the ACT Math and English sections. SLO will all superscore along with all the other CSU’s. Your English and Math sections are also important for waiving the ELM (Math placement) and EPT (English Placement) tests required by all the CSU’s. High enough scores fulfill these required tests.

Thanks@Jpgranier. Good to know that I was right that I chose my 2nd highest composite ACT for Cal Poly over my highest composite one since the 2nd highest’s English and Math sections were the highest.

I didn’t include my freshman grades for Cal Poly GPA calculation and already submitted my application (I knew about Cal Poly looks at 9th grade grades but when I was directed to CSU mission to calculate my CSU GPA, nothing was mentioned about adding 9th grades so I didn’t include them…very confusing description I thought…)

Anyway, Is there any way that I can correct the error? Or will Cal Poly recalculate my GPA under their calculation method on their end anyway and I don’t need worry about correcting it? (my counselor didn’t sound so sure but she said they would likely recalculate…)

Thanks

Cal Poly SLO will recalculate your GPA using your self-reported 9th grades.

You entered your GPA correctly. They want to know your 10-12 on the application, but Cal Poly SLO will recalculate like gumbymom said.

Send in both of your ACT scores. They will take all of your highest subscores and create a new composite score

For Example:

Test 1: 27C (18E 18M 36R 36S)
Test 2: 27C (36E 36M 18R 18S)

Superscore: 36C (36E 36M 36R 36S)

Thanks so much@Jpgranier and Gumbymom. So helpful info.

I didn’t mention which cal poly before…it’s SLO. So, let me clarify if I need to send my other ACT score. Below are my scores:

30C(33E, 34M, 26R, 29S)
31C(32E, 30M, 36R, 27S)

I only sent 30C score in to SLO. Since they only look at English and Math scores, I don’t need to send 31C one in, correct?

Bump

Help! Can anyone advise me if i should turn in my 31C score to SLO as well?

If you can afford it, I would send but it does not help your superscore but a big difference on your Reading scores may be noted.

Higher test scores assist colleges in college rankings. Your super score of a 33 would help boost your college’s standing in US rankings.

Also, the MCA calculations were found a few years ago. Who knows if they’ve changed it to where composite scores matter.

I’d send in both

Thanks!
