Does Cal Poly slo only look at the Math and English sections of the ACT? Or do they loom at Math and the English/writing combined scores? Also, does anyone know if the ACT scores on their school profile are the composite or just Engish/Math? I know that UT Austin looks at Math and the English/writing combined scores only. Does anyone one know any other good universities that do this?

bumppp anyone

Someone asked this question a couple years ago and here is the answer they got. Not sure if it’s the same, but I imagine it is. My daughter had a composite of 30, which I’m sure they looked at.

"We use the ACT English and Math scores only.

Hope this answers your question.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but I wasn’t sure if it was just the English section or the English/writing combined score they used.

They do not use the writing portion.

Do you have any proof to back up that claim? Also, are there any other universities that only look at Math and English sections f the ACT only?

I called the admissions office and asked. I have 2 kids who will both be at Cal Poly next year (one will be a junior and one will be a freshman). We studied the admission process very carefully. They equate the ACT English with the SAT reading. They will mix and match scores and even take a SAT math with a ACT english section or a ACT math with a SAT reading to get the combined score. But since you don’t seem to trust what people are telling you here, why don’t you just call the admissions office yourself. That’s what I would do. While I get information from this site, I always confirm everything just to be sure. And who knows, maybe the admission process had changed for this upcoming year.

As far as your second question, I know Georgia Tech does not use the ACT reading or science sections, but they used the math and the combined English/writing score, unlike Cal Poly which just uses the math and English sections without the writing.

No need to be hostile, I just wanted a link or something to verify your claim. My question may have sounded brash to you, but I did not mean it in that way. Interesting that Cal Poly mixes and matched their scores like that. I didn’t know that. I know that the average ACT for engineering majors is a 31, do you know if that is their composite or just Eng/Math. Cal Poly’s school profile could be misleading if they put composite scores there instead of just Eng/Math.

I was not being hostile. I just thought you should independently verify the information. I usually do so myself. I’m not certain what score they are listing. But I think it is the average ACT math/English score.
