Hey does anyone know if im applying as an engineering major…can i request to be in the business dorms? I was also wondering which dorms have the best social scene and is it true that the engineering dorms are pretty dead?

Hi, I graduated from Cal Poly in 2002. My facts may not be current, but you can check out details at: www.housing.calpoly.edu.

I'm pretty sure that the housing application offers you the "Living Learning Program", which places you in the dorm related to your college (engineering). So you would not be able to specifically request business. However, it is possible that you may end up in the business dorm, or any other for that matter. Another option would be to request the "First Year Connection" dorms which mix majors, giving you a wider variety of academic backgrounds.

I lived in Tenaya Hall which was/is? the Engineering dorm. Apparently, the year before I lived there it was totally quiet, boring, and unsocial, and I was very disappointed to find out that I was placed in it. The year I lived there it was INSANE! I never would have expected to have such a crazy partying year. I believe our dorm that year had the lowest GPA and highest rate of students kicked out of school, due to alcohol or whatever. I think it is completely dependent on the year and who you end up with as your neighbor.

Good luck!
By the way, I highly, highly recommend Cal Poly! It was a phenomenal experience for me.
