@ Socal29fan Thank you for calling and reporting back what you were told. I have been dying to call too. It gives me a little hope that maybe there could still be an acceptance coming.

Yup, I’ve officially given up hope. No point in putting myself through this stress.

@MamaMia13: So, basically if what you’re saying is correct, then nobody on the waitlist stands a chance. Their entire system is really unfair…

I want to remain hopeful but at this point I am now annoyed with their process than I am disappointed. I figure there are so many quality schools out there - my son’s been accepted to sev already, and whatever happens is meant to be. BUT I think the way SLO is handling this is wrong. Let all people who applied in nov find out at same time and then let them all have equal chance to apply for housing. That’s my biggest complaint. I kno it does no good to complain about it - obviously theft handle this the way they choose-I’m just venting. I think everyone who has someone waiting to get in and is going thru this will find the right school for them (or their kid). Another one of these life milestones. hang in there, everyone! We will get through this

To everyone out there upset with the decision process, they clearly state on their website that decisions will come out by April 1st. I applied as Electrical Engineering major, and while I’m anxious to get in like everybody else, I don’t see what’s annoying about the system. If they said they would release decisions by March 1st and three days later you hadn’t heard anything than yeah you have every right to be mad. I just don’t see the point of getting upset at them for doing what they said they would do

@Integrant: I agree with you. But, I think what people are mostly upset about is the fact that they’re already allowing people to sign up for housing. In my opinion, they shouldn’t do that until after everyone has heard back about their status.

They can’t send out everyones decisions at once. They set a record in the number of applicants this year so people will recieve admissions and rejections until April. Has nothing to do with your admission decisions. But the housing thing seems unfair.

My DS is accepted, but he won’t be making a final decision until he has heard from all the schools he applied to, a lot of which won’t be for another 3 weeks. I would imagine there are a lot of other admitted students in the same position, so I wouldn’t sweat too much about housing. If I had it my way you wouldn’t be able to apply for housing until May 1st. But I am fine with them doing it whatever way they want.

@Integrant: Other schools are handling the admission process in a much better manner. For eg: Santa Clara Univ, for their early action process, posted on their website that the decisions will be mailed on 17th and 18th Dec and will be posted on the portal on the 19th. Portals of all the EA candidates were updated on the same day.
UCI has posted a note that ‘the portal will be updated with the decision by 9 am. No further updates will be made throughout the day.’ With this, people can check the portal once a day after 9am to see whether it is updated. This shows respect for people’s time whereas CP is portraying arrogance by making people check the portal frequently. UCSC will be updating all portals on Mar 15th and have given a timeslot in the alphabetical order by the last name.
The way CP is handling the admission decision notifications to me seems totally disorganized. I agree with Socal29fan that many of the accepted students are going to be turned off by this attitude. It may be that they are under budget cuts and don’t have enough staff to handle this process in an organized manner.

My son was accepted (Kinesiology). He is a 4.2 (w) with a 1350 SAT (Math and Reading). With all the talk about the housing bit, I am concerned. He is deciding between a couple different schools with Cal-Poly as first option but wants to make a few phone calls and do a little more research to make sure he is making the right decison. Can he accept so that he can get the housing thing taken care? Is there a drawback to doing this or a financial stake in doing this if he ends up withdrawing and going to a different school?

Incredible… especially considering they’re basing their results entirely on numbers. (no essays to read or letters of rec either)
You’d think computers would have it all sorted out five minutes after the apps were all due. :/

Has anyone heard about the math department? That is what I applied as.

@NorthCAMom - Lol let’s be realistic here… if Cal Poly is someone’s dream school, I highly doubt the admissions process will turn out to be the dealbreaker. If they eventually get accepted, they’ll be relieved and happy (and laugh about the process down the road). If they get rejected, then they can’t go anyways. I understand it’s frustrating, but this is all part of the ordeal! You’re only going to go through it once in your life… How is it arrogance on their part? Just check it once before you go to bed if you only want to check once per day.

@Cheloveu02
I think being on the wait-list is a positive thing. I believe they will be selected just as well as the rest of the applicants.

Like tx5athe, my son was accepted but is waiting to hear from other programs. We will not apply for housing until other decisions are in. I’m sure there are many others in the same boat. I don’t think housing will be a problem for those who hear later this month. In addition, there are many accepted students who may choose not to attend, opening spots for those wait listed.

I agree it is strange that Cal Poly doesn’t wait to open housing until all of the acceptances have gone out. Sorry for all of those who are in limbo. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting!

I agree @NorthCAMom that Several other more prestigious schoolmates handle admission much smoother. I don’t buy into the excuse ‘because that had 49,000 applicants it takes do long.’ The decision is being done on computers. It is inexcusable and honestly, lame that they don’t give applicants a date or a time to check the portal daily. It actually makes me not want my son to attend SLO if he does get accepted. Students are far more than just a number.

I didn’t know you were an expert at college admission decision processing. But whatever we can sit here and discuss why we dislike this brutal process of admission decisions and it won’t change a thing. Just stay hopeful that you will be accepeted and know that there are plenty of other schools out there for you or your children to attend.

@Appleteam if you read entire thread we never claim to be experts and in fact have stated our kids have other options. We are trying to make sense of this process. Trying to understand. In fact in one post I made I believe I even stated that it really doesn’t matted what we think of how SLO handles decision/notification process. Perhaps read entire thread before judging. #justsaying

I think its great their decisions seem to come out so much earlier than some other schools. Frankly, I find cc can make you crazy when waiting on an admittance letter. We got another acceptance today and had no idea it was coming cause we didn’t go on their cc site and get all anxious. Great surprise. At USC we got caught up in the cc frenzy of scholarship notifications and that’s when we decided not to check anymore. It was torture till the letter came. I would rather not have known when it was supposed to be coming. We came to the CP admission thread after he did a random portal check that showed he was admitted.

Any Mechanical Engineering applicants who have been offered admission?
