Cal Poly Fall 2013 Admission Decisions

^^^ Posted before I read the last (more supportive) comments. I am happy that some people understood my message as it was intended. And I had a laugh about the parents needing to take chill pills…I think we ALL could use them! Two years ago when my portal finally “lit” with a hilarious acceptance video that my dept. put together, my mom was standing there, over my shoulder. She literally burst into tears and went running around the room like a chicken! (okay- MAYBE I had a tear in my eye, too). Happy ending for me and I hope for all of you TOO. Peace out!

There’s no need to apologize, your post was all in good faith. Thanks for clearing things up, and best of luck to those still waiting!

I haven’t heard anything!! I’m a math major and cal poly SLO is my top choice for school. I’m a transfer student from Feather River College in Quincy, CA. I’m hoping it wasn’t a rejection. What increases my chances of getting in there? The longer the wait the better the chance of getting accepted? Someone tell me please?

@melweaver 2011 the question of the month. ‘No determination made’ is getting quite old. From what I have learned the past week is that there is no rhyme or reason to how they are notifying people; it’s just a random waiting game. Try and stay positive and just know what whatever is meant to be, happens for a reason. sorry there are is no answer I can give- it’s all about waiting until SLO decides to let is know. :)

My son has not heard from Cal Poly either. I cannot imagine what takes so long to notify people. Some of his friends have been accepted and I think he is a stronger candidate.

Honestly, I wish SLO would have waited until they were ready to release all applicant news. In this day and age, it is inexcusable to have a two week time lapse between first notifications have gone out. In either scenario, let them all know within one week’s time. It’s cruel to expect applicants to continue to check portal ‘regularly’.

Totally agree Socal29fan!!! S is a very strong ME applicant and this really shows poor planning on the part of the engineering department.

Received email on Saturday that housing applications opens tomorrow. Perhaps you all will hear something tonight before housing opens.

My son applied to Life Sciences department and he still has the message “no determination has been made yet” so it may be the school Admissions department and not just the Engineering department. I have read about some people talking about getting put on the waiting list so I really don’t understand how would they know who to send wait list messages to unless they already know exactly who they will be offering admittance.

I’m wondering if this is how it’s been done in past years? It doesn’t seem right to offer housing options when so many applicants haven’t even had any decision yet… I’m calling now- on hold…the automated message said notification of status by 4/1. Ok gal I spoke with said, ‘they are still going through and making decisions daily. There is, in fact, no rhyme or reason to the way they are being notified/processed.’ When I asked her about the housing options being made available to applicants already accepted and how is that fair to students who are still in limbo, she simply said ‘they will be notifying applicants soon- over next couple of weeks.’ I also asked her if this is how it has always been done, mentioning my concern regarding fairness in housing selection to students who have yet to be notified but will be accepted and she stayed ‘they have ample housing and it’s never been a problem and yes, it’s always been handled this way because they look at so many things when going through the applications.’ So basically, I feel I got the run around. Lol. Still wait and see and still no determination. I did point out to her that they way they handle this process needs to be changed or they, perhaps will lose highly qualified applicants who simply choose another college after growing tired of waiting for SLO’s decision.

@socal29fan please let us know if you are able to talk to an admission officer im sure he/she will give valuable information :)

@socal29fan…yes please let us know. The housing assignments are on a first come first served it basis and the more popular options fill fast. This is just beyond any limit of excusable.

No valuable information given. :frowning: and she Assured me that housing is never a problem…right. I wonder if they think we actually believe some of this? Lol I pointed out that it is unfair to offer housing before all accepted applicants are even notified. Thai is just no way to fairly run any business and it seems like they actually make more work for themselves by not handling this application process more uniformly.

Just got denied…
GPA 3.8 uw/4.4 W
ACT: 32
Major: Political Science

Oh no… :(

Our guidance counselor went to a seminar and was told that Cal Poly would approach their admission decisions like never before. Cal Poly is the most sought after CSU and there are thousands of applicants. They do not want to accept too many students. They will be selective, they will pick the most qualified students, wait to hear from students whether or not they will attend, and then send out more acceptance letters based on the answers.

My D is checking her portal daily and we hope to hear good news soon.

I’m sorry @Jopoy456. Bummer
I know this is of little consolation, but at least you are out of limbo…I still think the way SLO handles this is crazy…

Sorry to hear that tmac187. And your stats are pretty good. I wonder how they are making their decisions.
Wish you the best for the rest of your college results.

Oops! Last post of mine should have read, ‘sorry to hear that @tmac187’ I think this uncertainty is getting to me

@tmac187 I’m so sorry that you were not accepted. You have a great GPA and test score. My son’s stats are similar. It makes me even more nervous!
