Hello everyone,
I am a computer science student who will be transferring to Cal Poly this fall, and I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to manage my living expense for the whole year (Considering that am planning on attending summer quarters as well), whether it’s to get my own apartment and roommate or to use the university’s own housing, and I was hoping that someone can clear up some of my confusion.
1- I see on the Cal Poly housing page that they got three different housing accommodations, (Double Suit, Single Bedroom, and private bedroom) and I was wondering what is main difference between the three? For instances, does any of them include a kitchen to cook food or will I by counting on take-outs?
2- What is the overall orientation and size of each option. take the Double Suit for instance, is their a wall separating the two beds, with each roommate having his own personal space, or is it oriented like a studio?
3- What about utilities (Internet, electricity, gas…etc) Are they all included in the price tag that they have on their websites, or do I have to pay those myself?
I have no Idea how housing in universities is like, nor do I know anyone who is attending a university, so any information and/or opinions on this matter is much appreciated
The university housing website has almost all of the information that you are requesting, including floorplans and pricing. You just have to search for it a bit. http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/student-housing
Thanks for the link @AMCdad. It seems that cerro vesta is the right place for me. But i still got one question. From the fees and payment page it states that a double suite apartment is cheaper thsn a shared bedroom apartment. How can this be? Who would pay more to share a bedroom with someone else when they have the option for the double suite (which i assume mean two bedrooms)? Am i missing something here?
College Confidential is best for students looking at getting into universities. Once you are in, I suggest you try sites like reddit, facebook, etc. (e.g. - https://www.reddit.com/r/CalPoly/ ) as they will have current students helping you out with ?'s (most likely someone has already asked the same thing and you can search for it).
@GamefanA , I think there are two set ups in Cerro Vista. One is a four bedroom apartment where each person has an individual room with shared bathrooms and common areas. The other is a three bedroom, six person apartment which is called the “Double Suite.” The private room apartments are amongst the most expensive options. The double suite apartments are amongst the least expensive.
Here is a link to the floorplans that will help to explain it visually:
@GamefanA, the Double Suite in Cerro Vista is a four bedroom apartment, with bunk beds in 3 of the rooms (originally meant as singles) and the 4th room is a study room (desks and chairs). So, 6 people total. My son is in one this year. Shared room apartments have larger double sized rooms with two people in each room. I’m not sure if there are any of those in CV.
