I recently got accepted to Cal Poly Pomona as a Biotechnology major. At first I applied to CPP as a biotech major in hopes of pursuing a future in med-school. I soon realized that not everybody makes it into med-school and becomes a doctor. So now I pretty much want to explore the different options I have in biotechnology. Is it a good field where I could easily find a job straight out of college? or do I need to go and get my masters at graduate school for a year before even considering a job? What are the different career options that I could take with a biotechnology degree? Could I venture into Genetic Engineering or possibly consider pharmacy school and become a pharmacist? And although biotechnology is found in the biological science department, is it considered engineering because you can work as a biomedical engineer after college??? Also I have never taken chemistry in high school, will I be ok? (a great majority of my course work shows chem classes). Also why is biotechnology an impacted major at CPP? because there is lots of opportunities to apply it after college or just because of CPP budget cuts?

I don’t know much about your major but I can respond to your concerns about impacted majors and budget cuts. A major is impacted due to popularity and the number of students who applied. Budget cuts are a real problem, but CPP just got a huge gift of millions from the Kellogg foundation [Cal Poly Pomona Benefits from Unprecedented Gift from W.K.
