Cal Poly Pomona cost

I was wondering what is the cost of cpp. I plan on applying for fafsa and grants and I plan on living off campus.

Do I have to purchase the books from the school or can I purchase elsewhere? Thanks

Cost of attendance:
Living On-Campus: /Living Off Campus
Tuition and Fees * $7027/ $7027
Books and Supplies: $1650/ $1650
Room and Board: $14,514/12588
Personal Expenses: $1392/1392
Transportation : $900/1300
TOTAL: $26,749/25223

You can buy books anywhere and even rent to keep costs down.

What if I plan on living off campus?

See updated/edited version. Transportation costs/Personal expenses and books are estimated and can be reduced.
Living off campus at home or in an apartment/house rental?

How come costs for room and board is 12,000 if I am living off campus? I am living in a house. I can also provide myself transportation so I won’t need that. What exactly are the personal expenses? Thank you.

You are living in a rental house? If so, you need to include rent/utilities/food etc… as part of the housing costs. Personal expenses: Toothpaste/Shampoo/Concert Tickets/restaurant meals/movie tickets etc… Again many of the Personal/Transportation (Car insurance/gas/maintenance of your car) and book costs can be reduced depending upon your spending habits. Tuition and fees are the only required costs.

I am living off campus at home with parents.
What is the $12588 for in room and board if I am living off campus at home?

Living at home with parents is different than living off-campus (meaning a rental).

Living with parents:
You would have tuition costs: $7027
Books and supplies: $1650 estimate (rent and/or buy from amazon) to keep costs down
Transportation: Gas/Insurance/Parking Permit and Maintenance (depends what your parents will cover) $1300
Personal Expenses: $1392 (again depends upon what your parents will cover)

These are all estimates so you might only have to pay for Gas and your parking permit. It is up to your parents what they are willing to pay for you to remain at home.

How much are your parents willing to pay for school? What is their income? You are eligible for financial aid (Federal or Cal grants?)

You should calculate your EFC (estimated family contribution) to see if you would qualify.

@lakers2000: All colleges have on their website a Net Price Calculator (NPC) that will give an estimate of costs based on your parents financial information. Here is CPP’s:

in my experience as someone who pays the bills for my kids college - the schools inflate their cost of living expenses pretty significantly. You have lots of control everywhere but tuition. Drive a new BMW to school, that’s a lot more expensive than using the free student bus pass… buying all new books from the campus bookstore is a LOT more expensive than renting them for an ereader. get the idea.
