Cal Poly Pomona Ethnic Breakdown

Hey guys for the poeple that go to cal poly pomona or know the ethnic breakdown are there a lot of asians there like indians, Chinese, etc. I am not being racist at all, I have absolutely no problem and I actually like diversity but I just wanted to get a sense of the different races at this school because I heard its very diverse. Also are there a lot of latinos and is campus life pretty chill like no racism or anything (I absolutely hate that).

Here are the most recent ethnic statistics. By the time students reach college, most of them have grown beyond racism, as a general rule, though I can’t speak to CPP specifically.

Thank You for your reply calla. Just wondering is there anyone who actually goes to the school or has a friend, neighbor, or family member that has anything to say about cal poly pomona. Thank you in advance. :)

I have seen the campus and live in So. Cal so know the reputation - also know some people starting there this fall. CPP gets a bad rap because people compare it to SLO, which is gorgeous. And to be honest the surrounding area is not great, and there is smog.

However, the school is known as a very good school. I know they are making an effort to increase the feeling of student body cohesiveness. You would get a good education there and if you can get involved in clubs or activities or an honors college, you will have a great time, (for much less tuition than you would pay elsewhere.)

I go there. The academics are great in my opinion. I’m an applied math/stats major (1 class away from a minor in physics but haven’t declared it yet).

I haven’t noticed any racism on campus. There’s a good representation of most races and I think Cal Poly Pomona has even been ranked high in diversity. There’s a ton of latinos/latinas. Haha, all of my friends are latinos except one on campus. They’re all pretty smart engineering majors. There are a lot of Asians in a math major. In my general education classes it was very mixed.

The school is great for science and engineering students. That’s where most of the reputation comes from anyway, I think. The price of it is a steal. The school is known for helping first generation college students succeed. I see people on campus constantly trying to get people involved. Orientation was great when I went. The campus of Cal Poly Pomona is pretty. Pomona itself isn’t that great of a place, but it’s not the school’s fault. However, everything is close if you have a car. There’s usually always something going on around campus. The food is decent.

It gets labeled as a “commuter school”, but I don’t think that should influence your judgment too much because you’re not paying tens of thousands of dollars a year to just have a party the whole time, it’s for a great education. There’s fraternities/sororities you can get into though and plenty of clubs you can join.
